Mazda MX-5 gets a massive revamp for 2020
MANILA: The revised model of the Mazda MX-5 is now available at its home market. As previously shown in the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show last October, it looks like MX-5, also known as Roadster in Japan, will get an ultimate facelift for its 2020 model year.
Originally in red metallic red finish, the altered version of MX-5 will don a polymetal grey metallic finish with a silver top trim level, body colour mirror caps, and 16-inch bright glossy aluminium wheels. The 16-inch wheels were forged by Rays Engineering who also made the wheels for the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition which debuted at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show last February. This essentially lowers the unsprung weight of the auto by around 3kg.
MX-5 2020 was also said to have Brembo foot brakes which provided the breaks for its predecessors Mazda MX-5 Levanto (2016), MX-5 Yamamoto Signature (2018), and the MX-5 Miata.
There are no intensive changes done for the other specs as it will still be having the SkyActiv-G 1.5-litre NA mill which can give up 132 PS power and 152 Nm torque. Meanwhile, the Retractable Fastback (RF) model will utilize the 2.0-litre unit that can give out 184 PS and 205 Nm. The 2020 model will also be available on both six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The RF model of MX-5 2020 will get a colour glow up as it will be available in Burgundy Nappa leather upholstery with light grey stitching which will definitely complement its classy interior design.
Customers may still opt for the Tan and Black leather upholsteries but this time, some perforations were added to provide better comfort for its passengers. Plus, you can also have the option to specify if you would prefer stainless door sill plates.
Among the features that the Roadster will adapt from the previous model is its audio technology. It will still include a top-calibre sound system from Bose which includes nine high-performance speakers, UltraNearfield headrest speakers, and AudioPilot noise compensation technology.
Another technology that will be infused in the 2020 model is the night pedestrian detection function for the Advanced Smart City Brake Support (ASCBS) system which also adds to its safety features.
All Roadster’s model trim levels will also include a key fob just like the one for Mazda 3 but with an upgraded look.
