McLaren launches luxury footwear collection in partnership with APL

MANILA: McLaren Automotive collaborated with high-performance athletic footwear brand APL to launch a new collection of luxury footwear that revolutionizes design, functionality, technology, and structure.

The limited-edition APL | McLaren HySpeed, the luxury supercar brand's first footwear collaboration, is designed as an all-purpose performance running trainer and was inspired by McLaren's iconic supercars and hypercars.

These two distinguished brands were both founded on innovation and technology, and their shared histories have brought them together to create a new future. APL and McLaren have consistently strived to raise the bar for performance, whether it be on the court, the highway, or the racetrack.

The determination to push the boundaries is at the core of each brand, from APL's patented Load 'N Launch technology designed to instantly increase vertical leap, to McLaren's ultra-luxurious Speedtail and focus on reducing vehicle weight to maximize efficiency and experience.

APL and McLaren are the epitome of luxury and performance as they both combine the pursuit of performance and luxurious materials with top-notch craftsmanship, cutting-edge production process, and breathtaking aesthetics.

The APL | McLaren HySpeed has a three-piece segmented midsole with APL FutureFoam pods in the front and back, which are connected by a full-length lightweight carbon fiber plate. On top of this is an all-new nitrogen-infused midsole compound that is designed for exceptional responsiveness and energy-rich compression.

The shoe also has an internal innovative fitment system with three-piece cushion heel padding and APL's signature Souffle Sockliner, as well as a microfiber heel with extended wings.

The outsole makes use of McLaren supercar design cues and has a tread pattern inspired by high-performance tires that are built for speed and traction.

APL has developed new technologies specifically for this shoe — inspired by our ground-breaking work using lightweight materials — which also maximizes the wearer’s comfort and experience,” McLaren Automotive Acting Design Director Goran Ozbolt stated. “Like stepping into a McLaren, it is all about optimizing performance, agility, and speed.”

“Over the past two years, the APL and McLaren teams have collaborated on countless design sketches, many different construction techniques, extensive product testing, and rounds of samples to create the most unique performance shoe the market has ever seen,” APL Co-Founders Adam Goldston and Ryan Goldston said in a statement. “One of the greatest commonalities between APL and McLaren is our quest to make beautifully designed products that perform at the absolute highest level, and that is exactly what we have done with this collaboration. The HySpeed is our most expensive in-line product to date and is the introduction of our newest pod-based midsole technology. The HySpeed features a three-piece segmented midsole with APL FutureFoam pods in the front and rear that are connected by a full-length carbon fiber plate topped by an all-new nitrogen infused, proprietary blended midsole compound that is engineered for supreme responsiveness and energy rich compression. The heel padding is modeled after McLaren's ultra-lightweight McLaren Senna seats that are designed to hold you in place but are unbelievably comfortable.”

The APL | McLaren HySpeed is available in White/McLaren Orange, White/Black/Ombre, Rose Dust/Creme, and Energy/Metallic Silver. It is priced at US$450.

The APL | McLaren HySpeed comes with a specially designed box that has almost as many features as the shoes themselves. The outer sleeve of the drawer-style box is decorated with gloss McLaren Orange, metallic orange foil, and black foil logos. A smoked-black shoe cover and a black inner box containing the technical blueprint of the shoe tooling is seen when the drawer is pulled out.
