What are the two McLaren e-mountain bike models?
The two McLaren e-mountain bike models are Extreme and Sport. What is the price range of McLaren's e-mountain bikes?
McLaren's e-mountain bikes are priced from P520,353-P694,773.According to the British automotive marque, the two e-mountain bikes were inspired by the brand’s award-winning supercars and were designed by the same team that worked on the Artura hybrid.
On that note, the McLaren Extreme and Sport e-mountain bike range embrace the same signature attributes as the brand’s iconic cars such as carbon-fiber construction and next-generation electrification.
That said, the e-mountain bikes pack powerful electric motors that enhance the two-wheelers’ power-to-weight ratio — which according to the Woking-headquartered brand — is a pivotal attribute that mirrors the development of McLaren supercars.
Per McLaren, they were designed with torque figures that surpass the standard of other premium e-bikes.
Further reinforcing their link to supercars, McLaren designers made an innovative display with graphics that mimic that of the instrument cluster used by the auto firm’s models. On the handlebar-integrated display, riders can view relevant details, such as telemetry information, battery life, and range.
McLaren Extreme, Sport range
The McLaren Extreme and Sport models are both offered in two variants: 250 and 600. The flagship 600 trims vie for the title of the world’s most powerful street-legal electric mountain bike with its Race mode delivering up to 852 watts of peak power (approximately 1.1 horsepower) and a top speed of 32 kilometers per hour.
Notable features unique to the McLaren Extreme include a SRAM wireless XX Eagle Transmission 12-speed drivetrain as well as a full suspension setup with a RockShox Lyrik Rush RC front fork with 145 millimeters (mm) of travel paired with a 29-inch wheel and a RockShox RS Deluxe Select+ rear suspension with 145 mm of travel complemented by a 27.5-inch wheel.
The McLaren Extreme e-mountain bike also gets SRAM G2 RE four-piston hydraulic brakes with 200 mm brake rotors.
McLaren noted that the Extreme model was designed for maximum off-road performance, control, and comfort. It has five available modes, which are listed below:
- Off – No motor assist
- Eco – Energy conservation for long rides
- Trail – A set-it-and-forget-it balance of power and efficiency
- Sport – Extra power output for when the trail demands more
- Race – Max power and max torque
On the other hand, the McLaren Sport is a hardtail e-mountain bike with a SRAM GX Eagle, 12-speed, mechanical shifting drivetrain as well as a RockShox Pike Rush RC front fork with 140 mm of travel.
It rides on two 29-inch wheels, front and back. Like the aforementioned McLaren Extreme, the spoked wheels are wrapped on Pirelli Scorpion Enduro tires. Likewise, the Sport models also get the previously mentioned riding modes.
The McLaren Sport e-mountain bikes are touted as “the ideal, all-purpose mountain bike that is just as at home off the beaten track as on aggressive single track, with integrated contemporary and minimalist frame design for pure McLaren style.”
While the number of how many e-mountain bikes will be made is not specified, McLaren explained that these two-wheelers are limited. Shipping of the made-to-order performance e-bikes is expected to start in August.
The McLaren Extreme is priced from around P636,633-while the Sport model ranges from about P462,213-P520,353.
