Meet all-new Skoda Mountiaq designed by students
MANILA: The automobile market is moving towards SUV and Crossovers and so does Skoda. The Skoda Mountiaq is designed by 35 amateurs from the company's vocational school. They took eight months and 2,000 hours of hard work to come up with this funky pickup truck. Kodiaq was used as a base and transformed the SUV into an off-road machine with an eye-catching design.
The exterior features familiar styling from Skoda such as front grille, thin headlights, and distinct taillights. It gets a bizarre ‘Sunset Orange’ paint scheme and even has an LED light bar and snorkel. The front is equipped with nudge bar and power winch. 17-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires are installed to increase its ride height.
These special off-road tyres also increase the track width by three centimetres. The trainees have shorted and widened the doors to meet the proportions of a pickup truck. They have also redesigned the front and rear bumpers, door sills and running boards to provide a more rugged appearance.
Underneath, the Mountiaq comes with a 2L turbo-charged straight injection inline-four motor, which is capable of churning out a maximum power of 190 PS. It is enough for a mid-size pickup truck. There is also hidden storage under the rear bed which makes this pickup more practical.
Will Skoda approve this concept pickup and serve it to its customers? Even though the specifications look great on paper, but Skoda has no plans of making this pickup anything more than a concept. The first Skoda student concept car was built in 2014. It was a two-seater version of the Citigo. It was followed by the Funstar, a Fabia pickup, and a coupe based on Rapid, named Atero.
