MIAS 2016 – Gist of Day 1

MANILA: The 12th Manila International Auto Show has begun and the Day 1 has been wrapped up successfully. Just like its earlier 11 editions, the 12th one is hosting some prominent automakers which have arrived with their updated fleet and concepts to impress the visitors. The ongoing auto event witnessed some highly-anticipated launches and showcases on the very first day while some of them are scheduled for the later dates. Big names like – Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, Chevy, Ford and SsangYong kept the visitors on their toes by staging their new fleets. Indeed, it was a great beginning of the show and with more things to explore in the coming days, it would be interesting to see if it surpasses the footfalls of past years.

Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited

Jeep has also arrived with its outrageous off-roader – Wrangler SUV at the grounds of MIAS 2016 where it is displayed in full gears to show-off what it is built for. This time, the company has extended the label to Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited offering some additional features than the usual Wrangler Unlimited model. The new trim would arrive with power-units worth 3.6-litre V6, 2.8-litre I4 turbo and 3.6-litre Pentastar to give that power kick. Having the features of the same versatile Wrangler Unlimited, the new model shows its sporty side with some additional features packed at exterior and interior. The price of this drive starts at PhP 1,990,000 and can be booked at the event itself.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo

Bringing a big smile on the faces of Filipinos is the all-new Hyundai Veloster Turbo in compliance with the Euro-4 emission level. As the name suggests, the new Veloster Turbo has arrived with turbocharged engine mated with GDI technology and 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT. The 1.6-litre power unit of this drive knocks out 201 hp of power and 265 Nm of torque. The latest edition of Veloster has surely received some tweaks for a refreshed look which is already attracting the prospective customers to Hyundai booth. With a tuned engine, the intense red body color and revamped 18-inch alloy wheels make this coupe a true beauty now. The interior has also been redesigned and imprinted with 'Turbo' badge for a sportier and elegant feel. Also, don't forget to check out the generous 439-litre of boot offered by this coupe.

SsangYong Tivoli

The latest model of SsangYong Tivoli is considered among the most important launches in the country. This compact SUV is powered by a 1.6-litre powertrain delivering a maximum power of 128 PS and a maximum torque of 160 Nm. Mated with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearshift, this engine looks highly responsive. The sturdy front of this compact drive with crisp creases and the sporty interior with advanced comforting features make this drive a true companion for on and off-road trips. The price of this compact SUV falls between PhP 785,000 and PhP 1,080,000.

SsangYong Rodius

The next entry from SsangYong is the new 2016 Rodius which is offered in 4 trims. This new MPV is packed with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine which churns out a peak power counting to 153 hp between 3400 and 4000 rpm along with a peak torque of 360 Nm between 1500 and 2800 rpm. This powertrain is coupled with 5-speed automatic transmission and enhances the efficiency of the engine. The best feature flaunted by the 4th largest Korean auto manufacturer is that the new SsangYong Rodius has a structure of MPV while the utility and comfort of an SUV. A big boot and powerful stance make this drive worthy enough to be owned at PhP 1,290,000 (base model).

SsangYong Korando

The new 2016 Korando is the 3rd drive which has been launched for the Philippines automotive market today. The full-size SUV has been styled with urbane features to suit the requirements of Filipinos. The swanky SUV is offered with a choice of 3 engines – 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel and 2.0-litre CRDi. The drive is designed and engineered as per the new Euro-4 emissions and carries features which can make it a threatening drive for its competitors. This drive can be all yours at PhP 1,090,000 which is pretty competitive in its segment.

Peugeot 308 GTI

The new Peugeot 308 GTI hatch is the latest to step into the bandwagon for the French company. This performance-centric drive has a potent 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine which pumps out 266 hp of power and 240 Nm of impressive torque making the drives thrilling. This new car is sharing the MIAS 2016 stage with its other siblings – 301 and 508 sedans. Where the French are known for creating well-crafted cars, Peugeot is no exception and the new 308 GTI is the latest example from this French camp. The interior is also well-packed with advanced amenities to make the driving comfortable and convenient.

Subaru Forester 2016

 

Finally, Subaru has marked its entry with its all-new Forester 2016 at the MIAS 2016 arena and has managed to impress the crowd right at the inaugural day of the event. With a striking appearance and luxurious cabin, the newest version of Forester has arrived with a new platform which gives it better stability and enhances the performance. The crossover is offered with a choice of 3 trims and a 2.0-litre engine. The 2.0iL and 2.0i Premium have a naturally-aspirated engine and knocks out 150 PS of power while the XT trim is a turbo unit and delivers 241 PS of high power. The exterior and interior have gone through a renovation to make it a more stylish and comforting drive. New Forester 2016 has been tagged with price starting at PhP 1,448,000.

2016 Chevrolet Sail

The American automaker Chevrolet has found MIAS 2016 the perfect place to showcase the new sail 2016 for the first time in the Philippines automotive market. The B-segment sedan is a real eye-candy when it comes to styling and features and flaunts a classy stance. Making some renowned names like Mitsubishi Mirage G4, Honda Brio Amaze and Mazda2 sweat, the new sedan would be up for sale by Q3 this year. The automaker is yet to launch and reveal the price of this sedan. Maybe that's the next move by Chevy for Philippines market!

All-New Mercedes A-Class

After making an international debut at Frankfurt Motor Show 2015, the new Merc A-Class has hit the Filipino shores through MIAS 2016. Adding more to the glamor quotient of the event, the new A-Class features some never seen before technologies and aspects under its name. Some new features along with the old classic aspects make this drive a complete delight on the road. This first mid-size hatch by Merc carries the same luxurious and comforting traits as its other siblings and is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre petrol engine.

Mitsubishi Mirage 2016

Marking its attendance at the MIAS 2016, the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has brought the 2016 Mirage at the pavilion. The latest version of Mirage is powered by a 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines knocking out 70 hp and 79 hp of maximum power respectively. The new Mitsubishi baby is a perfect blend of efficiency, capability and aspects for someone looking for a small car. With a stylish exterior and an equally peppy interior, the new Mirage 2016 is packed with decent safety aspects making it a good choice for the customers. The official launch and price for the Filipino customers are yet to be announced by the Japanese automaker.

Ford EcoSport BLACK Edition

After tasting the success for its highly sold EcoSport, the American automotive manufacturer Ford has now brought some refreshment for the customers. The brand has just added a new Black Edition to the EcoSport lineup to offer more options to the customers and charm on the road. The new model has been garnished with some black implants along with some tweaks at the exterior which indeed make it a better looking EcoSport at all times. With the same 1.5-litre engine, the new Black Edition can be checked out at the Ford stall at MIAS 2016. The manufacturer is yet to reveal the price of the new model for the Philippines automotive market.

Ford Everest 2016

Another entry from the Ford camp is the new Ford Everest. The mid-size SUV by the American automaker Ford has just gone better, at least, the new Ford Everest 2016 says so. This time, the new Everest 2016 has been arrived with Titanium Premium package and a power-unit of 2.2-litre. The latest model comes with some additional features for comfort and aesthetics and includes power panoramic moonroof, LED daytime running lights and HID projector headlamps . At its interior, the new Everest has received a revamped trim with numerous aspects to make the traveling convenient for the occupants. The price of this model starts at PhP 1,799,000 for the Filipino customers.
