Mini wins big at News UK Motor Awards 2021
MANILA: Mini won two awards at this year’s News UK Motor Awards. It bagged the Best British Built Car award for the Mini Electric and the Dog Friendly Car of the Year award for the Mini Clubman.
The Mini Electric is known for combining the signature features of the brand with the benefits of electric vehicle (EV) technology. It has the ability to accelerate from a standstill to 100kph in 7.3 seconds and has a range of up to 233 km on a single charge. It is available in three different trim levels, as well as the new Electric Collection model. Pricing starts at £26,000 (approximately P1.797 million).
Meanwhile, the Mini Clubman is offered with three performance options, from the iconic Cooper to the high-powered John Cooper Works, with optional All4 all-wheel drive system. It is also available in Classic, Sport, and Exclusive trim levels, and the new Shadow Edition model. Pricing starts at £23,505 (approximately P1.624 million).
Sunday Times driving.co.uk Editor Will Dron stated, “Dog owners have very specific requirements when it comes to their cars, which is why Mini’s partnership with Dogs Trust and goal of becoming the first officially dog-friendly car retailer by 2022 will be music to their ears. The work Mini is doing with canine behavior experts will no doubt pay dividends but already there's a lot going for the Mini Clubman when it comes to man's best friend: a low boot sill, the split rear doors, and a new dog pack, including a dog guard and rear compartment mat, help make travel much more comfortable for canine companions.”
Mini UK Director David George took pride in the brand’s triumph in the awarding ceremony, saying, “What fantastic categories for Mini to win at the News UK Motor Awards 2021. We’re proud that the Mini Electric is built at the home of the brand in Oxford — down the same line as our combustion engine cars and the Mini Clubman. We’ve recently partnered with Dogs Trust because it’s equally as important to us that our four-legged customers love being in a Mini as much as the drivers do, and the convenient split rear doors of the Clubman make it the perfect car for dog-owners, so we’re over the moon it’s been recognized as Dog Friendly Car of the year.”
