Mitsubishi launches spruced-up Montero Sport in Thailand, is PH next?

MANILA: Mitsubishi has unveiled the latest iteration of the Montero Sport in Thailand, which could mean that the said version could be on its way to the Philippine market.

Known as the Pajero Sport in the Land of Smiles, the midsize sport utility vehicle’s (SUV) latest version comes with updated aesthetics and an upgraded powertrain.

While waiting for Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation’s official announcement whether the offering would run on local soil, here are some details about its Thailand counterpart.

The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport sports a new hexagonal front grille and redesigned front and rear bumpers. Providing accents to the vehicle are the 18-inch black alloy wheels to match the darkened side mirrors and door handles.

Inside, the SUV is tailored with two-tone black-burgundy color with smoked titanium trimmings at the door and air vents.

The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport’s multi-functional steering wheel with paddle shifters has been updated while occupants can enjoy the new thermal-reflective diamond-pattern seats with heat guards. Both front seats are eight-way power adjustable with the driver side having the additional power lumbar support. It also has a NanoeX air purifying technology.

Other amenities that can be found in the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport are the new eight-inch full digital cluster gauge; similarly-sized infotainment system with Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity (linked to eight speakers and a power amplifier); and 12.1-inch roof monitor. It is also equipped with an electronic parking brake with auto hold function as well as hands-free power tailgate accessible via five opening techniques.

Powering the sport utility vehicle’s latest version is the Euro5-rated, 2.4-liter four-cylinder common rail direct-inject turbo diesel Hyper Power engine 181 horsepower and 430 Newton-meters of torque coupled with four drive modes namely Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand, and Rock.

The vehicle’s high-end four-wheel-drive versions have a new transmission that is mated to the brand’s Super Select 4WD II system uniquely designed with a full-time 4H system that allows seamless switching from 2H to 4H, even while driving at high speeds (shift-on-the-fly). It also comes with 4HLc and 4LLc modes.

Driver-assistive technologies that are outfitted in the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2024 is the Diamond Sense with adaptive cruise control that includes forward collision mitigation system, ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system, multi-around monitor, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot warning with lane change assist, auto headlight leveling system, and tire pressure monitoring system.

The Thai-spec pick-up platform vehicle also has the Mitsubishi Remote Control that offers special commands such as car finder, vehicle reminder, tailgate operation, and vehicle information.

Offered in four variants in Thailand, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport’s pricing ranges from around P2.149 million all the way to P2.614 million.
