More emphasis on Electric vehicles in coming years- EVAP
MANILA: With the economy being the prime and eco-friendly being the theme, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) is working in the field of promoting eco-friendly electric vehicles in the country. In the recent times, the agency has held various meetings and supported several ventures that are working on the development of efficient EV’s. The introduction of EV’s in the nationwide will also encourage various foreign investments.
The EVAP has announced that the Taiwanese electric motor maker, TECO Electric and Machinery Co., Ltd., which is also its member has joined hands with the local bike distributer named Ropali Corporation in order to market the electric vehicles and look into the possibilities in the EV sector. The agency is also working on multiple strategies in order to implement the roadmap of electric vehicle production in the nation. In the coming years, the industry will grow by rolling out 1,000 electric Jeepneys and 5,000 electric tricycles. The Landbank and Development Bank of the Philippines have also agreed to support the initiative with flexible finance and investment.
EVAP President, Mr. Rommel Juan stated that, “We are supported by the government in order to work together with various agencies on the research and development of the EV. The EV industry is to be taken to the next level by the implementation of some action plans.” The country is already witnessing the successful launch of Roteco ETrike and Electric Jeepney. The EV’s are powered with efficient electric motors of TECO. In Philippines, TECO is a manufacturer of electric motors from last 22 years.
Juan had also managed the EV launch issues via EVWG, which will look to the ground level inspection system and set reliable standards for the electric vehicles. The agency will look for the national and local franchises and registration guidelines offered by the Land Transportation department.
