'MotorTrend' hails Lamborghini Huracán EVO 'Best Driver’s Car' of 2020
MANILA: Noted US automotive publication MotorTrend has recognized the Lamborghini Huracán EVO as 2020's "Best Driver’s Car.”
This honor was adjudged by the organization’s team of reviewers and editors, together with race car driver Randy Pobst, who conducted successive driving tests on all models that were included for assessment.
In an article published on its website, MotorTrend explained, “A MotorTrend Best Driver’s Car winner doesn’t just make a talented amateur feel like a hero. It has to impress and inspire every driver, from a rookie to a pro. And in this aspect, there was no question: the Lamborghini Huracán EVO is the 2020 Best Driver’s Car. It all boils down to one thing: driver confidence.”
In 2018, the Huracán Performante, which is another variant of the Huracán, was also given the Best Driver's Car award
With regard to the 2020 edition, MotorTrend stated that it had to limit the number of judges and models included in the evaluation because of pandemic restrictions.
Nevertheless, it still emphasized that the vehicles which the publication did not feature would not have become contenders in any way.
The judges trimmed the field to seven finalists and the MotorTrend team drove all of them around the Raceway Laguna Seca in California. Pobst, who was able to take the vehicles through their paces on the track, verified the assessments of the team members.
As for the Huracán EVO, Pobst shared in the MotorTrend article, “Tremendous cornering grip, quick turn-in, real quick steering response, but absolutely planted in the back. And as I got more and more confident and aggressive, I could get a little bit of rotation, but I had to ask for it, which I like. I want to be the one making it rotate. I don't want a car to do it on its own. And that’s where the Lamborghini was.”
The Huracán EVO, as an enhanced Lamborghini Huracán, is fitted with a high-performance 5.2-liter, naturally aspirated V10 engine that generates 600Nm at 6,500 rpm and 640hp at 8,000 rpm.
This engine, which produces a more emotional sound that is provided by the new lightweight exhaust system and the titanium intake, helps the all-wheel Huracán EVO speed up from a standstill to 100 kph in 2.9 seconds and to 200 kph in 9.0 seconds. The top speed is more than 325kph.
The Huracán EVO includes torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering, and the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata that manages the set-up and dynamic systems of the vehicle to anticipate the driver’s needs as well as their next moves.
The upgraded Lamborghini Dynamic Steering mechanism guarantees low-speed agility and stability during under braking and high-speed cornering. Three drive modes, namely the Corsa, Sport, and Strada, can be chosen through the Anima controller.
The Huracán EVO is made for driving pleasure in Strada mode. In Sport, it generates ultimate excitement, while in Corsa, the supercar becomes more thrilling, responsive, and sharp. It is ideally designed for highly intense driving conditions like on the racetrack.
The design of the Huracán EVO also highlights improved driving dynamics as well as the aerodynamics of a supercar. A new front bumper obtains a splitter with an incorporated wing and enhanced air intakes.
A new sports exhaust system at the rear is positioned high up in the bumper and a slotted spoiler is present to increase air flow. New air intakes and wheels characterize the flanks.
Even the underbody of the supercar was reformed to optimize aerodynamics. Currently, it can produce over five times the downforce of the first Huracán version.
The aforementioned features therefore make the Huracán EVO worthy of recognition.
