MPT South Hub receives LEED Gold Certification

In a statement, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) President and CEO Rodrigo Franco said, “MPTC is committed to advancing sustainability. We are extremely honored to have one of our facilities certified by a world-renowned body as a green building. This inspires us to continue the implementation of our infrastructure projects with the least disruption to the communities and the environment.”
MPTC has also demonstrated its expertise in establishing sustainable infrastructure through MPT South. “It already began integrating energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies while maintaining the high standard of road safety features along CALAX. Existing toll plazas of the operational sections of CALAX were equipped with rooftop solar panels that power its own operations. Roadway lighting systems use LED fixtures, thereby improving energy efficiency,” MPTC CFO and Executive Sponsor for Sustainability Christopher Lizo said.
MPT South Hub received an LEED Gold Certification for its outstanding use of sustainable principles in the design and construction of the facility, earning a score of 66 points. It is housed in a four-story building with a total area of 5,237 square meters in Imus, Cavite. It boasts a biophilic design with plenty of natural light and ventilation, as well as a full view of the outdoors. With the use of advanced water efficient fixtures and rainwater harvesting, the Hub uses at least 40% less indoor water and 50% less outdoor water. The facility also contains an EV charging station for the company's e-vehicles, which it aims to convert to EVs as its current fleet ages. It is also the first MPTC infrastructure to receive LEED certification.
MPTC Chairman and President Manny V. Pangilinan was also present in the virtual awarding ceremony. In his remarks, he said, “Attaining an LEED Gold Certification for MPT South Hub is no easy feat, and so for that I would like to extend my congratulations to our MPTC team. It is a testament as to how serious our organization is in integrating sustainability in the way we build and operate our businesses, in hope of safeguarding a resilient and sustainable future for generations to come.”
