New 2020 Isuzu D-Max specs, features, and variants
MANILA: Isuzu Motors recently revealed the variants of the new 2020 Isuzu D-Max. Since Isuzu’s new line of utility vehicle comes with new features and several upgrades, it’s best to sort these out based on the variants so you get an idea of what Isuzu has instore for their third-generation D-Max pickup truck.
First is the entry-level model. Also called the Isuzu D-Max Spark, nothing much to see here as this variant is targeted for commercial use. It’s a two-seater vehicle with two ride heights—one with 190 mm, while the 4WD will have a 220 mm ground clearance. And since this is a commercial-grade pickup, it will have the biggest bed which measures 2,330 mm long, 1,590 mm wide, and 465 mm tall.
The mid-range variants are the D-Max Space Cab, D-Max Hi-Lander and the D-Max Crew Cab. The Space Cab and Hi-Lander are still a 2-door model but with a bench seating behind the driver and front passenger. Not much leg room if you’re going to seat extra passengers but hey, at least they're protected from the elements. The bed has a slightly shorter length at 1,805 mm but has a taller height of 490 mm. The Crew Cab variant comes with 4-door and can accommodate 5-passengers comfortably. This variant comes with the smallest bed at 1495 mm long.
The real head-turner is the flagship model—the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. It features 2-slat black grille for that masculine look. It is then flanked by a pair of restyled headlamps with projector lights, LED daytime running lamps. Just below it is the vertically stacked twin fog lights, along with a skid plate and matching black detail to complete the rugged look. At the rear, the same black accent is continued that accentuates the vertically stacked LED taillamp. Like the Crew Cab variant, it features 4 doors with 5 seating capacity.
Inside, the interior is heavily upgraded as well. It features a new dashboard, a central console that features a touchscreen display, a multi-functional steering wheel, and a new instrument cluster with a large 4.2-inch digital dash display. The dash is more streamlined with fewer buttons as controls are integrated into the console. And being the top-of-the-line variant, it comes with all the features in Isuzu’s list including safety features like 6 airbags, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, stability control, and traction control.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is powered by a 3.0-litre 4JJ3 Blue Power engine capable of delivering 190 hp of power and 450 Nm of torque partnered with 6-speed automatic transmission which Isuzu dubs ‘Rev Tronic’.
The real question now is, when will it arrive in the country? Well, there is no definite date yet. But if it will follow the same trend, expect it to reach the Philippine shores in the latter part of 2020. Who knows, maybe just in time for the 2020 Philippine International Motor Show.
