New Audi Sport RS models are speeding to the country
MANILA: Audi Sport, the high-performance division of Audi, will soon introduce its most recent RS models to the Philippine market: the Audi RS 3 Sedan, RS 6 Avant, and RS Q8.
The new RS models are given technology that is based on a 48-volt electrical system with cylinder deactivation. However, it has been modified for an improved and more distinctive feature compared to the previously released RS line.
The manufacturer assures good aerodynamics and high quality of each model by using laser scanners on the aluminum material of the car’s body to polish the surface, joints and radii down to the tenth of a millimeter.
Audi Sport Managing Director Oliver Hoffman stated, “Our customers demand the best products on the market. We have the best specialists and teams to meet their high expectations.”
Audi Sport is the high-performance subsidiary of Audi AG. The German-made RS models are produced with Audi’s quattro-all wheel drive system which has been renowned both on the road and racing in the last 40 years. The system is recognized for its sportiness, safe driving, technical expertise, and peak performance in competitive environment. Aiming to maintain this image, the RS models are made with distinctive design and ability to be used by the clients in a daily basis.
The quattro system made a significant impact in the World Rally Championship’s manufacturers’ title in 1982, drivers’ title in 1903, and both titles in 1984. The technology was also a feature on the Audi Sport S1 that was driven by Walter Rohrl who bagged the crown on the Pikes Peak hill climb even in 1987. It had also contributed to the US Trans-Am championship in 1988 and seven national championships in 1996. Audi Sport had remarkably conquered the championship title of the German touring car racing Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters with its wins in 1990, 1991, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Audi Sport teams had also gained 12 achievements in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and two drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles in the World Endurance Championship.
The legendary involvement of the quattro technology to the motor sports influences the design of the RS models. The classic Audi Sport Quattro of 1984 is the inspiration of several RS models with the horizontal slits located between the grille and the hood. Audi RS6 Avant and RSQ 8 have fender flares which can hold 22-inch and 23-inch wheels, respectively. The models’ engines also contain wide air inlets and elliptical tailpipes.
The test drive for each newly developed model is conducted at the Nürburgring track to evaluate its function under extreme circumstances. It has contributed on the improvement of quality of the RS Q8 which maintains the record of the fastest lap time for sports utility vehicles at Nürburging.
It is expected that more RS models will be available in the Philippines in 2021 including the R8 supercar.
