New Engine, New Variant - Know How 2016 Toyota Vios Different From its Older Version
MANILA: Vios is a name that rules major portion of the ASEAN region. The car sells like free hotcakes, with zero customer enquiry and 100 percent customer satisfaction. The reason is obvious and is restricted to just two domains, first a Toyota, and second its best-selling sedan. In all, it's a perfect package of Quality, Reliability and Safety, all that a buyer looks for in his new four-wheeled possession. As for the recent update, this much talked about Toyota C-segment sedan has recently undergone a major revamp operation. But as for now the new Toyota Vios is only confirmed for the Thai market, the same place where the revamped version was showcased for the first time.
Now, the big question is how different is the 2016 Toyota Vios from the one running in the Philippines! Well, to be honest, the first impression didn't differ much from the Vios currently running in the Philippines. When we dug a little deeper that's where the real transformation came into light.
Down under, we have compared different components of old and new Vios and analysed how different or similar they are from one another.
Exterior - They look alike
When Toyota Thailand unveiled all new Toyota Vios was compared with the Philippines bound Vios, we found that they looked strikingly similar. They had the same pair of headlights, dual-plate chrome grille, large air vents, multi-spoked alloy wheels, body colored door handles, swept-back tail lights and the list is endless. So, all in all, if some day new Vios launches in the Philippines, it will carry forward the same design language.
Interior - Didn't find anything new
Like the exterior, the interior of both the old and the new versions looked similar. This disappointed us, as if not the exterior, the interior deserved some revisions. All you get with the new Vios is the same three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and 3-circular unit instrument binnacle.
Powerhouse - At last we found where the change lies
The major portion of the change chunk lies under the hood. Seems like Toyota has devoted its entire workforce to build a better performing and efficient Vios. Talking specifically about the Thai market, it will now be getting a new 1.5L Dual VVT-i mill, code named 2NR-FE. The said mill will be replacing the older 1.5L (1NZ-FE) E85 running engine. The new mill will generate 108 hp of maximum power along with 140 Nm of peak torque.
Transmission - With new mill comes new gearbox
The new engine will be accompanied by a new advanced gearbox, enhancing driving confidence and handling. Toyota has dropped the old 4-speed automatic transmission system and has integrated the Toyota Vios 2016 with CVT mated to 7-speed manual mode.

Safety - More airbags
All new Toyota Vios is a safer vehicle to drive. Over the SRS driver and passenger airbag, it now has side and curtain airbags, increasing the safety front by manifold.
Launch - When in the Philippines?
The Thai market has already received its bit of treat, as for the Philippines market we are hoping to see the Toyota Vios 2016 making an appearance at 2016 MIAS. As for now, enjoy the latest Toyota treat, the all new Innova.
