New Maserati MC20 pays tribute to Sir Stirling Moss
MANILA: Maserati recently confirmed that the new super sports car Maserati MC20 serves as a tribute to the late British champion, Sir Stirling Moss, who died last April 12 at 90 years old. The design used for this model was inspired by the Maserati Eldorado, the classic single-seater that was driven by Moss himself in 1958.
The Italian auto brand says continuously produces a full selection of unique vehicles with outstanding and well-recognized personalities. These vehicles are manufactured from high-quality materials and developed through superb engineering. All vehicles are available in all-wheel and rear-wheel drive and have diesel or petrol engines. Each of the successful cars that produced embodies safety, elegance, comfort, performance, and uniqueness.
Moss was considered one of the greatest icons in the history of world motorsports. It is also possible that the reason behind the launching of the Maserati prototype on May 13 is because Moss won during the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix on May 13, 1956. He then drove the Maserati 250F (his favorite, as he recalled back then), and he was able to complete 100 laps around the winding Monaco circuit. The French driver, Jean Behra, who also drove a Maserati 250F, placed third during the same championship.
Other Maserati cars that the British motor-racing champ has driven include the 300 S, Tipo 61, and the Tipo 60 Birdcage.
During the 1956 season and a few 1957 races, Moss was beaten by Juan Manuel Fangio, an Argentinian motor racer. Furthermore, Fangio also took his 1957 title in another 250F, which confirms the excellence and reliability of the vehicle.
Through the MC20 super sportscar, the "trident brand" wants to emphasize its sporting vocation and return as one of the leading brands in the racing circuits, following the world championship that has been won in 2010 with another model, the Maserati MC12. It is also through this prototype that the genuine values of Maserati in terms of innovation, driving pleasure, and performance can be demonstrated.
Aside from its racing comeback, Maserati prides itself with its MC20 as the first vehicle to use a new engine, which was purely produced and developed by the Italian auto brand.
