New Mini Clubman showcased at Shanghai Motor Show

MANILA: The British auto giant, Mini has taken the wraps off the facelifted Clubman hatchback at the ongoing Shanghai Motor Show. Along with the six different engine options, the hatch comes with some designing tweaks both inside and outside.

Visually, it is pretty hard to differentiate the refreshed Clubman with the outgoing model. The car comes with a familiar 'shooting brake' design. At the front, it features circular headlights along with the with LED matrix lighting. However, the changes include a newly-styled front grill, which connects with the front bumper. Coming to the rear, there is a new set of LED taillights, and the car rides on a fresh set of either 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels.

The interior of the new Mini Clubman tells the same story as the exterior. It comes with new leather upholstery and features three new trim options that include Piano Black, Frozen Blue, and Fibre Alloy. On the dash, there is a revamped touchscreen infotainment display. The system can also use a SIM card to support the 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connection for internet connectivity, online streaming, and onboard navigation.

Performance wise, a total of six TwinPower Turbo engines are available for the vehicle that includes three turbo-gasoline engines and three turbo-diesels. The petrol-fed mills can provide a maximum power between 102 PS and 192 PS (depending upon the variants). On the other hand, oil-burners’ power output ranges from a maximum of 116 PS to 190 PS.

Moreover, three transmission options are also available, which includes a six-speed manual, seven-speed dual-clutch, and an eight-speed automatic. The top-spec petrol variant can speed up from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds and can also attain a top speed of 204 kmph.

It is rumoured that a big release will be made by early 2020 and the company is also coming up with an all-electric version of this Mini hatch.
