New Porsche Panamera undergoes final testing in Spain

MANILA: The new Porsche Panamera is going through final test drives in Spain a few months before its debut.

The tests focus on the powertrain, which includes a new Porsche Doppelkupplung transmission, and the new chassis.

Porsche will introduce four E-Hybrid variants for the new Panamera. Power comes from a new, more potent electric motor mated to the new dual clutch transmission. The mill is lighter than its predecessor while yet providing better drivetrain and recuperation performance values. The 25.9-kilowatt-hour battery of the new Porsche Panamera can be charged at a shorter time with the 11-kilowatt onboard charger.

“After already offering three E-Hybrids for the second Panamera generation, we will be adding a fourth plug-in hybrid in the new Panamera. This is our response to the enormous demand from our customers. In some countries, the proportion of E-Hybrids in the Panamera is almost 100 percent. The new derivative is a high-performance model that fits perfectly into the versatile lineup,” Porsche Panamera Product Line Head Dr. Thomas Friemuth stated.

Porsche is improving the electrical performance of the Panamera in all E-Hybrid variants in terms of  driving dynamics and electric range. The test drive team is able to travel up to 70 percent further on electric power alone than they did in its predecessor.

Aside from its extensively revised powertrain lineup, the new Panamera features other new developments. It now comes with an optional high-end chassis with active damper control and many additional features.

The semi-active chassis has a new two-valve shock absorber, which can independently regulate the compression and rebound stages.

The finishing touches will be applied on the new Panamera during the test drives. The new generation of the four-door sports car will be officially unveiled at the Icons of Porsche Festival in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on November 24.
