Over 51,000 female commuters get free MRT-3, LRT-2 rides on International Women’s Day
MANILA: At total of 51,202 female passengers were given free rides on the MRT-3 and LRT-2 trains last Tuesday, March 8 as part of the Department of Transportation's (DOTr) observance of International Women's Day.

A total of 38,445 female passengers took advantage of the free rides on the MRT-3, while the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) recorded 12,757 female passengers who availed the free rides on the LRT-2 line.
On the same day as the free rides for female commuters, LRTA also provided free blood typing, blood pressure checks, and random blood sugar tests at the LRT-2 Recto and Araneta Center-Cubao stations.
In a statement, MRT-3 OIC-General Manager Asec. Eymard Eje said, “Kaisa po ng buong bansa ang pamunuan ng MRT-3 sa pagdiriwang at pagsaludo sa dedikasyon, galing, at puso ng bawat kababaihang Pilipino (Along with the whole nation, the MRT-3 management celebrates and honors the dedication, prowess, and compassion of every Filipina).”
In parallel, LRTA Administrator Jeremy Regino said, “These activities aim to honor and recognize the indispensable role of women in our society as well as reaffirm DOTr and LRTA’s commitment to gender equality and women empowerment.”
This year's National Women's Month celebration, themed "Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow," celebrates women's accomplishments, advocates the elimination of biases, and urges others to take action for equality.
