PH-spec Volkswagen Tharu: what we know so far

All is set for the official introduction of the Volkswagen Tharu in the Philippines.

The sign that AC Motors is ready to offer in the local market is already out: the first batch of examples have already landed in the Batangas Port.

While we have yet to receive the details about the soon-to-be-unveiled models, here are some bits of information on the Philippine-spec Tharu under the German automaker.

Known as Taos in some overseas markets, the Volkswagen Tharu will likely be powered by a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine since one of the photos shared by AC Motors show that the vehicle has a 300 TSi badge.

Further, the company will offer the forthcoming model — bigger than the T-Cross — fitted with numerous technologies like the matrix LED headlights with adaptive front lighting system, panoramic sunroof, virtual pedal tailgate, and intelligent park assist.

To be retailed in two trims namely the SE and SEL, the Volkswagen Tharu will come in Pure White, Mangan Grey, Petroleum Blue, and Polytech Blue. The entry-level variation shall wear a price tag of P1.8 million while top-of-the-line option, at P1.95 million.

To note, the model will compete in the compact crossover category — going against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross, MG HS, and Changan CS55 Plus, among others.

For buyers who want to see the vehicle in the metal, Volkswagen Philippines will also hold public test drives for the Tharu this Saturday and Sunday at Karrera Cafe in Alabang, Muntinlupa City from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
