Pilipinas Shell salutes frontliners on National Heroes Day
MANILA: Energy company Pilipinas Shell honors the dedication and bravery of frontliners amid the pandemic, particularly during National Heroes Day. “Today, Filipino heroism takes a whole new meaning as frontliners who risk their health and lives every day to turn the tide against the coronavirus crisis are seen as the new breed of heroes. They are examples of the bravery and self-sacrifice that all Filipinos can aspire to, as we work towards a more hope-filled future despite the seemingly overwhelming odds,” the company said in a release.
Added Pilipinas Shell Vice President for Retail Randy Del Valle, “The Filipino resilience and our bayanihan spirit have seen us through our toughest times as a people — and working together as one, we can win back our lives, bring healing to the most vulnerable among us, and restart our economy, “
Medical frontliners fueling up at Shell stations today will be greeted by forecourt service personnel by placing their hands on their chest as a sign of gratitude and encouragement. Motorists at the gas station are encouraged to honk their car horns and make a salute. Del Valle continued, “Our doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals have shown us the way by their unwavering example in courage and selflessness. They are our modern-day heroes – and it is only just that we honor them during National Heroes Day.”
Customers can get their vehicles maintained and disinfected at the Shell Helix Oli change + Lube Bays. When availing of the oil change package, clients get free car interior sanitation services.
Aside from healthcare workers, Shell honors farmers “who are responsible for ensuring the continuous supply of food to the people, especially during hard economic times.”
Through Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI), the Para sa Bayani (For Our Heroes) program — working for the development of agriculture, livelihood creation, and production of crops and other food items – is subdivided into Ani Para sa Bayani (Harvest for Our Heroes), Tulong Para sa Bayani (Help for Our Heroes), and Proteksyon Para sa Bayani (Protection for Our Heroes).
Ani Para sa Bayani “regularly supplies crops to MAYANI, a social impact-driven online platform that delivers fresh vegetables and fruits to customers, in order to help partner farmers increase their income.” Through this, nutritious meals are also given to health workers in NCR. Tulong Para sa Bayani, on the other hand, has provided some 11,750 relief packages to displaced workers and their families based in Shell’s many areas of operation. Lastly, Proteksyon Para sa Bayani has given 8,013 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontliners.
Shell’s partnership with the Batangas-based SIBBAP Multipurpose Cooperative, “whose seamstresses pivoted from sewing school uniforms and eco bags to produce face masks, face shields, and PPE, which are also being sold at Shell Retail outlets” partly accounted for the Proteksyon Para sa Bayani effort.
From September 1 to 30, gifts its customers a kilo of rice every time they purchase either single or accumulated purchase of Shell V-Power Fuels worth P1,500 or Shell FuelSave Fuels worth P2,000. The promotion is valid for cash, credit card, and mobile transactions only.
