Porsche Asia Pacific launches updated Taycan

MANILA: Porsche has launched the updated Taycan for the Southeast Asian market in Singapore. 

According to the German marque, the updated electric vehicle (EV) was provided with more range, power, and acceleration. The carmaker also gave the refreshed EV unit a sharper appearance to match its performance gains. 

Exterior

For its exterior, Porsche shared that it improved the appearance of the Taycan with new front and rear styling details. 

Specifically, the updated ride sports a pair of new high-resolution matrix LED headlamps. The rear section of the electric-powered sport sedan was also equipped with a new three-dimensional, glass-look light strip. 

For the first time ever, the company says clients may customize the look of the rear taillight bar to their liking. Depending on the buyer, the said piece can even feature animations. 

Completing the look of the all-electric Porsche model is a set of 20-inch wheels. 

To note, the updated nameplate is available in two body styles. It may come as a sedan or the Taycan Cross Turismo. 

For those curious, the Taycan Cross Turismo is a wagon. As such, it boasts an expansive boot area with 446 liters with the rear seats up and 1,212 liters with the rear seats folded down. 

Interior, Tech

The new Porsche Taycan’s interior now boasts an expanded set of standard features. Here’s a list of tech and creature comforts now available for all trims of the Porsche-made EV:

• 14-way adjustable seats
• Four-zone climate control system
• Bose surround sound system
• Ambient lighting
• Porsche Park Assist with active parking support
• Porsche Intelligent Range Manager

Powertrain

According to the German car maker, the Taycan’s improved powertrain can now provide up to 678 kilometers from a single full charge. Charging times for the model have also been boosted, and it is now capable of going from 10-80 percent in just 18 minutes. 

In its most powerful form (Taycan Turbo S), the updated model can now generate up to 938 horsepower (hp).  For reference, the locally available pre-facelift model of the Taycan Turbo S can put out 750 hp. 

While it has gained a larger battery, Porsche says the updated Taycan has also shed a total of 10.4 kilograms. Thanks to its lighter gross weight and more powerful motor, the Taycan Turbo S, in particular, can now accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.4 seconds. 

For added power, some variants of the updated Taycan were likewise fitted with the new “Push-to-Pass” function. In a nutshell, it can temporarily increase the model’s power output by up to 93 hp for ten seconds. 

Other notable mechanical specifications of the updated EV include adaptive air suspension (optional), a drive mode selector, a power steering mode selector, and rear axle steering. 

Taycan Turbo S Celestial Jade

Highlighted during the updated Porsche Taycan’s launch in Singapore is the bespoke Taycan Turbo S Celestial Jade. 

Built under the Sonderwunsch program, it features unique design touches, the most notable of which is a combination of “Urban Bamboo” and “Shifting Carbon” exterior colors. 

By mixing the two hues together with colo-changing, aluminum-layered flakes, the marque achieved an elegant light-green-colored sedan with the ability to shift to a gold tinge depending on lighting conditions. 

The one-off unit’s interior, meanwhile, was decorated with varnished carbon pieces, Turbonite-colored inlays, and a custom dark green leather material found on its dashboard, center console, door cards, and seats. 

Availability

For now, Porsche Philippines has yet to announce when the updated Taycan will reach the local market. A local launch, however, is only a matter of time since the German company’s local arm also operates under the wing of Porsche Asia Pacific.
