MANILA: Following the introduction of the nameplate’s final internal combustion engine-powered version last September, the Cayenne’s electrified version has been launched in the Philippine market.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How fast can the new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid go?

The new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid can go 0-100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 254 kph.
  • What are the new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid's body options?

The new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid comes in sport utility vehicle and coupe formats.
  • At the Porsche Festival of Dreams last weekend, PGA Cars revealed the Cayenne E-Hybrid — the latest addition to the nameplate’s options in the country.

Offered in coupe and sport utility vehicle body options, the new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine paired with an electric motor and integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission.

The powertrain combination — which can deliver peak churn of 464 horsepower and 650 Newton-meters of torque — allows the new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid to run 0-100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 254 kph.

According to PGA Cars, the electric motor improves the Cayenne E-Hybrid’s recuperation performance by around 30 percent. In generator mode, the Cayenne can convert power of up to 88 kilowatt (kw) into electrical energy and supply it to the traction battery.

Aside from that, the recuperation system can decelerate the vehicle to a speed of two kph.

Further, the new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid battery gross capacity of 25.9 kilowatt-hours — enabling a purely electric range of up to 90 kilometers (equivalent all-electric range-city driving). Its on-board AC charger (which has charging capacity of 11 kw) can fully charge the vehicle in around two hours.

The Stuttgart-headquartered marque also optimized the driving modes’ configuration in the new Cayenne E-Hybrid.

In Sport mode, the vehicle maintains a minimum battery charge level of 20 percent. Meanwhile, the minimum charge level drops from 80 percent to 30 percent in Sport Plus program.

The new strategy, Porsche noted, reduces the number of charging phases — improving its overall efficiency without affecting performance.

Meanwhile, the model’s dynamic charging — dubbed the Porsche E-Charge mode — operates in hybrid mode when the Cayenne E-Hybrid is driven at speeds of less than 55 kph, with the combustion engine and the electric motor sharing the workload.

However, the maximum charge level using the aforementioned technology is only 80 percent.

Also seen in the fully-electric Porsche Taycan, the new Cayenne E-Hybrid also has the Porsche Driver Experience layout by placing commonly-used controls on or beside the steering wheel — including the gear selector that is now on the dashboard.

The updated cockpit also features a curved, 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central Porsche Communication Management display, and an optional 10.9-inch screen passenger display.

Similar to the new Cayenne offerings, the E-Hybrid iteration is outfitted with redesigned front and rear portions as seen in the new hood, grille, bumpers and rear apron.

Assuring better operation on the road is the two-chamber air suspension system fitted to the new Cayenne E-Hybrid. The technology augments the vehicle’s performance on- and off-road and offers more differentiation between Normal, Sport and Sport Plus driving modes.
