Porsche Center PH houses country’s first high-powered DC charger

MANILA: Porsche Philippines continues to lead the initiatives for the wider adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the local market with the installation of a new high-powered DC charger for EVs.

The new high-powered DC charger is the first of its kind in the country. It is installed at Porsche Center Philippines in EDSA Greenhills. The charger is similar to the ones used by Porsche in other markets worldwide. It can charge the Taycan from low battery status to 100% in less than 30 minutes.

In a statement, Porsche Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Roberto Coyiuto III said, “With the Porsche Taycan, we are proving that electromobility is sustainable in the Philippines. We are taking the lead in this area to open possibilities for future partners and stakeholders so the technology can be adopted more widely by progressive consumers. Fully electric cars are not mere concept vehicles as proven by not a few of our forward-thinking customers who regularly drive their Taycan on the country’s roads.”

Taycan owners who purchase their cars from Porsche Center Philippines can use the high-powered DC charger for free. An appointment must be booked first, then they can simply drive through the facility to charge their car where they will be assisted by Taycan specialists.

Every purchase of Taycan comes standard with the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, which uses alternating current (AC) and allows the owners to charge their car at home overnight. The new high-powered DC charger at Porsche Center Philippines serves as an added option for Taycan owners’ charging needs. It gives them access to charging solutions while on the road.

The installation of advanced charging facilities is part of Porsche Philippines’ initiatives in developing the necessary ecosystem to support the Taycan’s operation in the country. The company has invested over P150 million not only for charging solutions, but also for procuring original Porsche and other manufacturer-approved equipment, tools, and software exclusive for EV servicing and construction of other infrastructure.

“Besides these outlays, Porsche Philippines has also invested in training our personnel, which was conducted by Porsche AG, so they are properly equipped to service electric vehicles like the Taycan. They are certified as Gold-level technicians, the highest awarded by the factory,” Coyiuto added.

Currently, Porsche is the only global brand that has sold a significant number of fully electric cars in the Philippines.

In the first half of 2021, Porsche moved a total of 19,822 Taycan units worldwide, which is nearly equal to the 20,015 units that were sold in the whole 2020. Porsche recorded a 31% sales increase on the first six months of the year as it moved a total of 153,656 units worldwide.

Porsche AG Executive Chairman Oliver Blume believes that the brand’s electric strategy is doing well. Therefore, half of all Porsche models that will be sold in 2025 will be equipped with an electric motor and more than 80% will be fully electric by 2030.

“We have a marathon called transformation ahead of us. We have taken our first big step with the Taycan, and more will follow in the years to come,” Blume said.
