Porsche expands Macan model range

MANILA: Porsche has expanded the Macan model range with a new rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant and the sportier Macan 4S trim. The two new versions of the German brand’s compact luxury crossover follow the global launch of its second-generation iteration in January 2024. 

So, what are the two new Macan versions offering to prospective adopters?

Macan RWD

Like the Macan 4 and Turbo variants launched earlier in the year, the new RWD trim uses a 100-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. However, the new version forgoes a front motor and instead depends solely on a rear-axle motor. 

The rear-mounted all-electric powertrain can produce up to 355 horsepower (hp) and 563 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque at maximum. From a standing start, the Stuttgart-based carmaker says the Macan RWD can reach 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 5.7 seconds. The model also has a claimed top speed of 220 kph. 

The Macan RWD is 110 kilograms lighter than the other all-wheel-drive trims because it has one less motor. As a result, it boasts a range of 641 kilometers (km), as indicated by the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure. For reference, the Macan 4 has a range of 613 km, while the Turbo can cover up to 591 km. 

Macan 4S

Sitting between the Macan 4 and the top-spec turbo variant is the all-new 4S. Similar to most other Macan trims except the RWD version, the 4S uses a dual motor setup with one in the front and another in the rear. Altogether, the two powertrains can churn out up to 508 hp and 820 Nm of torque.

Thanks to its beefy powerplant, the Porsche Macan 4S can accelerate from zero to 100 kph in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 240 kph. 

For added ride comfort and handling, the new high-performance Macan trim is equipped with the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, an adaptive air suspension system, and the brand’s torque vectoring system. It likewise depends on rear-axle steering for more controllability. 

Other features

Present on both the Macan RWD and 4S is a slick aerodynamic body and the brand’s 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. Thanks to the PPE, the two new variants have a direct current charging capacity of up to 270 kilowatts, which chalks up to a high-speed charging rate of 10-80 percent in just 21 minutes. 

The new Macan’s variants may likewise come with an optional “off-road design package.” The said package includes an off-road bumper with a better approach angle of 17.4 degrees. It also offers an alternate setting for the vehicle’s air suspension, which increases the vehicle’s ground clearance by 10 millimeters (mm). 

The two new versions are also equipped with a 12.6-inch curved display, a 10.9-inch passenger display, a heads-up display, and augmented reality technology. All of the aforementioned works in tandem with the vehicle’s ambient lighting system to provide a color-themed interior. 

The all-new Macan is equipped with 20-inch wheels as standard. The off-road package, however, provides 21-inch off-road design wheels.
