Porsche Taycan Q1 sales match 911 deliveries
MANILA: Porsche has recorded a 36% increase on its worldwide deliveries in the first quarter of the year versus the same period in 2020. The luxury car brand has moved a total of 71,986 sports cars, sports utility vehicles (SUVs), and sedans in the first three months of 2021.
Despite being a newcomer in the market, the Porsche Taycan, which is the brand’s first all-electric model, achieved a remarkable sales performance, moving a total of 9,072 units. It was nearly equal to the 9,133-unit sales total achieved by the iconic 911 sports car.
In a statement, Porsche AG Executive Board Chairman Oliver Blume said, “We will sell significantly more Taycan cars this year. In the first quarter, deliveries of our successful all-electric model were already almost half of the total for all of 2020. A particularly pleasing fact here is that around 50% of the buyers are new customers. The Taycan is therefore increasing the size of our fan base.”
SUV models continue to be the brand’s best-sellers in the first quarter of the year. The Macan led Q1 sales, moving a total of 22,458 units. It was followed by the Cayenne, which sold 19,533 units.
The combined sales of 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman mid-engine sports cars reached 6,190 units, while the Panamera sport sedan sold a total of 5,600 units.
Porsche has recorded double digit-percent growth in all its sales regions. In Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East, the brand was able to sell a total of 32,129 units, representing a 46% growth. China significantly contributed to this increase, moving a total of 21,991 vehicles, which was 56% higher versus the same period last year.
In American markets, Porsche has delivered a total of 20,468 vehicles, representing a 43% growth. In Europe, the brand has sold 19,389 units, 16% more than the recorded sales in the same quarter in 2020.
Porsche AG Executive Board for Sales and Marketing Member Detlev von Platen said, “We are extremely pleased that the community of Porsche customers continues to grow all over the world. Established models have supported this excellent result, along with the latest additions to our product range, above all the new model variants of the fully electric Taycan.”
