Porsche said that the Cayenne will become available in diverse powertrain options, giving its next decade of customers variations such as internal combustion and hybrid variants. The announcement was made in a statement by Porsche AG Chief Executive Officer Oliver Blume, saying that the fourth generation will set standards in the segment as an electric sport utility vehicle (SUV).
“The Cayenne has always defined the sports car in its segment. In the middle of the decade, the fourth generation will set standards in the segment as an electric SUV,” the company chief was quoted as saying.
As a completely redeveloped and redesigned model, the fourth-generation Cayenne is intended to significantly support the ramp-up of electromobility at Porsche.
“Our product strategy could enable us to deliver more than 80 percent of our new cars fully electrified in 2030 – depending on the demand of our customers and the development of electromobility in the regions of the world,” Blume explained.
The Stuttgart-headquartered marque also said that the Cayenne will become available in diverse powertrain options, giving its next decade of customers variations such as internal combustion and hybrid variants.
The third-generation Cayenne, the Stuttgart-headquartered premium automaker said, will be further upgraded and continue to be offered alongside the fourth, all-electric generation.
The current-offering will be further developed with major technological investment in the future — focusing on the powertrains (particularly on improving the efficiency of the V8 developed by Porsche and built at the Zuffenhausen engine plant), among others. Extensive technical measures will ensure that the twin-turbo engine is ready to comply with future legislative requirements.
According to Vice President for the Cayenne Product Line Michael Schätzle shared that the model’s first camouflaged all-electric prototypes have already left the Porsche factory, after undergoing a series of digital development and tests — including the first test drives in the Development Center in Weissach.
“The real-world testing has begun, and this is one of the most important milestones of the development process,” he noted.
Prototypes that were released shall cover several million test kilometers all over the world under extreme climatic and topographical conditions.
“In this way, we ensure the durability and reliability of the hardware, the software and all the car’s functions in accordance with our high-quality standards,” Schätzle added.
Porsche AG Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development Michael Steiner shared that the aforementioned all-electric luxury SUV is based on a comprehensive extensive development of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800-volt architecture,
“The flexibility of the PPE architecture allows us to integrate the latest technology in the fields of high-voltage systems, powertrain and chassis. We are going to utilize the potential of electrification to take the Cayenne to a completely new level in a number of ways – for instance, in driving performance,” he said.
Further, Porsche is also eyeing to develop high-capacity and stable charging, high efficiency, and a high level of comfort for everyday usability.
