Sales of Volvo Recharge models remain robust in North America

MANILA: Volvo Car USA reported sales of 9,372 cars in May with Recharge models (electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) representing 35.7% of total sales of the carmaker. This also  indicates continued consumer demand for electrified vehicles.

In California, Recharge models accounted for more than three out of four (77%) retail deliveries, up six percent from the previous month.

In Canada, May sales of Volvo Recharge models accounted for 34% of total sales, up 2.4 percentage points over the previous month. Overall sales increased 2.8 percent over May 2021.

The Volvo Car Americas region as a whole saw 11,513 cars sold during the month.

“Demand for our cars remains strong but we foresee continued inventory challenges ahead,” Senior Vice President, Volvo Car Americas and President and CEO, Volvo Car USA  Anders Gustafsson said, possibly referring to the ongoing chip shortage. 

Volvo Philippines currently offers PHEVs in its Boost range of vehicles. The local company said it the first luxury car company to sell plug-in hybrid vehicles in the country. 

The XC60, XC90, and S90 are powered by a two-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine coupled to a 48-volt battery, both of which work together to save fuel and lower emissions.
