Set for Indo launch, will the cute-ute Toyota Raize be PH-bound as well?

MANILA: Toyota Indonesia will be releasing the all-new 2021 Toyota Raize on April 30, featuring a new power plant that brings us more hope that it will eventually be introduced into our market.

Trusted insiders claim that instead of the standard 1KR-VET which is a one-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged engine, a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated one will power most ASEAN models. The Euro 4-compliant DOHC engine reportedly makes 87hp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4,500rpm and has an advanced D-CVT or dual-mode continuously variable transmission. #SaveTheManual fans would be glad to know that a five-speed is also an option.

While the JDM model has front-wheel and 4WD variants, the ASEAN model being launched in Indonesia will only have the former. For those curious as to how the 2021 Toyota Raize stacks up in terms of size, it’s 3,995mm long, 1,695mm wide, and 1,620mm high with a wheelbase of 2,525mm and ground clearance of 185mm. That makes it just a tad smaller than the Hyundai Venue and Kia Stonic but huge when compared to the Suzuki S-Presso. It slots beneath the Toyota Rush which has, since last year, quietly ditched the five-seater version (maybe to give way to the Toyota Raize). 

Suspension kitting features standard MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam in the rear. This might not sound as sporty as cars with full-independent suspension but this is standard across the segment and, given the short wheelbase and light curb weight, this setup is adequate enough to provide a stable ride and steering dynamics. Make no mistake, this is no sports car, but it will be released with options for a GR Sport package for added flair and style.

The 2021 Toyota Raize features bold styling reminiscent of the Toyota RAV4 and Toyota CHR. A large, gaping front grill and contrasting two-tone paint evoke sportiness. It is reported that there are optional 17-inch alloy wheels that add even more street cred to the tiny crossover.

So, will Toyota Philippines locally release the all-new 2021 Toyota Raize? We sure can’t wait to find out.
