SGAP targets to open 13 new Geely dealerships 'soon'

MANILA: Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) continues to expand the dealership network of the Geely brand in the Philippines despite the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, there are 11 fully operational Geely dealerships nationwide, and SGAP is set to open 13 more soon.

In 2020, SGAP announced that it was planning to open 15 dealerships that year and 15 more in 2021. Due to the pandemic, the firm decided to push back or cancel dealership expansion plans.

Being a new brand in the local market, Geely aims to expand its reach to more Filipinos as soon as possible. Geely has fully operational dealerships in North EDSA, Quezon Avenue, Makati, Baliwag, Cagayan de Oro, Imus, Cebu City, General Santos City, Davao City, Lipa City, and Zamboanga City. SGAP is also set to inaugurate new Geely dealerships in Iloilo City, Pasay City, Manila, Santa Rosa, Angeles, Bacolod, Dagupan, San Fernando, Marikina, Las Piñas, Marilao, Tacloban City, and Taytay-Cainta. Just recently, SGAP appointed new dealers for the upcoming Geely dealerships in Bacolod, Dagupan, Marilao, Bacolor, and Sumulong.

In a statement, SGAP President and Chief Executive Officer Yosuke Nishi said, “We are taking a more aggressive approach in reaching out to more customers in the country this year as we keep up with our target network expansion schedules which were stalled by the long-standing global crisis.”

Despite being a newcomer, Geely has emerged as one of the strong contenders in the local automotive industry. The brand has recorded impressive sales figures and received praise from critics.

“As the crisis is seen to take longer, this year will definitely be another tough year to battle for many businesses. On the brighter side of things, I would like to believe that Geely was introduced in the Philippines at the right time, at a point where buyers are now demanding for more high tech and safety features in cars they wish to purchase yet still reasonably priced,” Nishi added.

Aside from its dealership network expansion, Geely is also set to launch new models in the second half of the year.
