Where is Mt. Kanlaon located?
Mt. Kanlaon is located between Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. What is the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation?
The Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation is a private-sector coordinator for disaster risk reduction and management. In total, the two entities strived to provide over 500 of the said hygiene kits to the victims of the natural disaster residing in Bago City, La Castella City, and La Carlota. According to the PDRF, the three aforementioned locations were the hardest hit in Negros Occidental.
As per PDRF, each kit is designed to address the hygiene needs of the natural disaster victims. As a form of aid to the local economy, the foundation shared that the said kits were procured from small and medium-sized enterprises in the locality. Other local businesses, such as KJ Fairmart, likewise lent a helping hand by offering the free use of its cargo trucks.
Donna Hidalgo, an evacuee from La Castellana, expressed her appreciation for Shell's relief efforts.
“We are very thankful because this is a big help to us, [farming is our only source of living> and now that Kanlaon erupted, we have no income. So, this aid from Shell is a big help for us and the kids here [in the evacuation center> because we don’t have anything with us, just our clothes,” Hidalgo said.
Shell Terminal Supervisor JC Magno also observed the strong response of various groups to help the victims of the Kanlaon eruption.
“Earlier, while I was giving kits, it was heartwarming for them [beneficiaries> that they were served, given attention and they were not ignored. That means our government and the private entities are not neglecting them,” Magno said.
As mentioned by PDRF President Butch Meily, Shell is a close and strong partner of his organization, especially where disaster response is concerned.
“Shell’s relief effort in Kanlaon demonstrates what the private sector can do in difficult situations. PDRF is pleased to have been part of the initiative,” Meily said.
