Sojitz Corporation to command Geely operations in the Philippines

MANILA: With the establishment of Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corporation (“SGAP”), which is a fully-owned subsidiary, Sojitz Corporation (“Sojitz”) has procured the rights for handling the operations of Geely Auto in the Philippines. As a result, Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corporation will now manage everything from importing Geely vehicles from China to the Philippines, selling them, and providing the customers with after-sales services.

Earlier in 2011, Geely made its entry to the Philippine automobile space in association with Auto China, Inc. The Chinese auto giant is, however, now looking forward to expanding its reach and business in the Philippines with the help of Sojitz Corporation. Owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Geely Auto is China’s biggest privately-owned automotive manufacturer.

The parent company also owns the likes of Volvo, London Taxi, and Lotus along with having huge stakes in Proton and Daimler. In conjunction with Volvo, Geely has also established the brand Lynk & Co in China.

Doing business in the Philippines ever since the 1960s, Sojitz Corporation is a proven campaigner in the Philippine automobile industry. Geely is aiming at spreading its reach across the Philippines with the help of Sojitz Corporation, set its foothold, and give the Japanese, American, and other automakers in the Philippines a stiff competition.
