Spyder-mas: Maserati MC20 Cielo unveiled

MANILA: Maserati has unveiled the MC20 Cielo, a one-of-a-kind vehicle that combines the performance of a true super sports car with a comprehensive and engaging driving experience like no other.

MC stands for Maserati Corse; 20 refers to 2020, the start of the brand's new age; and Cielo (sky) indicates that it is a model dedicated to driving pleasure in the great outdoors while keeping all of the coupe's prerogatives.

The Cielo, powered by the new V6 Nettuno engine, delivers a perfect balance of sportiness and luxury, thanks to a segment-exclusive feature: the retractable glass roof.

The new spyder serves as a meeting place between Maserati boldness and the endless sky, with a distinct "sky feeling."

The model comes with a cutting-edge electrochromic (smart glass) window that can quickly change from transparent to opaque at the push of a button on the central screen, thanks to Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) technology. The roof is also class-leading in terms of thermal insulation and opening and closing speed (just 12 seconds).

The MC20 Cielo offers a multi-sensory driving experience with this technological marvel: all-encompassing with the roof closed and opaque; unique for the in-cabin brightness when the roof is transparent; holistic with the top down.

Built at the Maserati Innovation Lab and the historic plant on Viale Ciro Menotti, the spyder, like the coupe version, is 100% created in Italy and 100% made in Modena.

The MC20 Cielo only weighs 65 kg more than the coupe, owing to rigorous, exact work done during the design process. Aside from its amazing weight-to-power ratio, the carbon fiber chassis (which will be the same for all three future configurations: coupe, spyder, and future electric version) also ensures uncompromising torsional rigidity, providing a mix of exceptional road and track handling.

The new spyder is an automobile that is both stylish and sporty in appearance. The cleanliness of its forms and the optimized aerodynamics subjected to 360-degree testing in a wind tunnel, give it a unique identity. Nothing in the design is unnecessary; everything serves a purpose.

The only concession to a surprise effect is the butterfly doors, as seen on the MC20 super car.

The butterfly door makes it much easier to get in and out of the cabin while also revealing the carbon fiber cockpit and exposed front wheel.

The launch version comes with a distinctive new three-layer metallic paint called Acquamarina, which is part of the Maserati Fuoriserie customization program. The color reacts to light and reveals itself in surprising ways. The base is a racing-inspired pastel gray, indicative of the MC20's athletic DNA, with an iridescent aquamarine mica that brightens and enhances the hue.

A comprehensive range of Active Safety Systems is also included in the new model. Customers can opt to add available autonomous emergency brake, traffic sign information, and a new 360-degree camera to the parking sensors, rear-view camera, and blind spot monitoring that have been standard on the MC20 from the MY22.

An optional High Premium Sonus faber audio system is also included with the MC20 Cielo. The MC20 Coupe system, an EISA award-winning in-vehicle audio system, has been specifically tailored to match the unique acoustic and positioning needs of the spyder's interior, placing the system's 12 speakers to produce Sonus faber's signature Natural Sound.

The Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system and Maserati Connect control the in-car experience.
