Stretch away: Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended is longer, better appointed than original

MANILA: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced the debut of the new Ghost Extended which, as the name suggests, is a lengthened version of the Mk2 Ghost. This translates to improved rear seating space without neglecting the driving dynamics of the model.

Ghost Extended is said to be the result of a comprehensive consultation process with a new batch of Rolls-Royce customers since the model has been the object of great interest in the UK.

Compared to the original, the Ghost Extended provides 170mm more rear legroom since the main priority during its development is customer comfort.

Moreover, since customers wanted the the pure, minimalist design of the Ghost to be preserved in the Ghost Extended, the brand’s designers took the initiative to cover the additional length. This was done through an extension of the rear door as well as body around the rear door openings to retain the vehicle’s lines.

Ghost Extended was constructed based on the “Architecture of Luxury,” defined as the patented all-aluminum spaceframe that characterizes any new Rolls-Royce model.

In addition, exceptional workmanship is shown through the presentation of two new wood finishes that were developed specifically for Ghost. These finishes are Dark Amber, which has veins of fine aluminum particles running through the length of the wood; and Obsidian Ayous, which is inspired by a vibrant array of colors seen in igneous rocks.

A new planar suspension system brings about the brand’s signature “Magic Carpet Ride,” which is the outcome of a decade of extensive research and development performed by professional engineers.

The new planar suspension system is also an advancement that has never been observed in a production motor car before. It features a world-first upper wishbone damper, self-leveling high-volume air strut assemblies, and continuously variable, electronically controlled shock absorbers.

For the first time, the Ghost Extended also benefits from all-wheel steering and all-wheel drive (AWD).

In addition, a 6.75-liter twin turbocharged V12 engine, which generates 563hp and 850Nm, delivers power to the Ghost.

The need for silence while on the road is achieved through 100kg of acoustic damping materials that are integrated into the chassis, tires, and bodywork. As a result, it promotes a thrilling driving experience without any interruptions.

A range of modifications to the cabin rear demonstrates the versatility of the Ghost Extended. A reclining serenity seat is available for the first time, and the seat provides a new level of rear seat comfort comparable to a commercial jet cabin setting.

The rear cabin also offers an ideal atmosphere for shifting from business to recreation. As one of its enhancements, a Champagne fridge, is placed between the rear seats and this has been engineered to satisfy the needs of Rolls-Royce customers.

Since Ghost is considered as the most innovative Rolls-Royce that has ever been constructed, the entrepreneurial customers of Ghost Extended find its state-of-the art infotainment system and wiFi access useful for daily business activities.

To generate cleaner air inside the cabin, the vehicle is fitted with a new Micro-Environment Purification System (MEPS). This innovation upgrades the current air filtration systems through hardware and software. The highly sensitive impurity detection sensors monitor ambient air quality by instantly allowing fresh air intakes into Recirculation Mode.

For improving the driving experience in rural and urban environments, a range of advancements is also available. This includes laser headlights with over 600 meters of illuminated scope and major safety features such as lane departure and lane change warning, cross traffic warning, collision warning, active cruise control, all round-visibility and helicopter view, a four-camera system with panoramic view, alertness assistant, and vision assist with day and night-time wildlife and pedestrian warning.

The first deliveries of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended are expected to take place during the first quarter of 2021.
