Subaru BRZ selected as one of Car and Driver’s 10Best Cars for 2023

MANILA: The 2023 Subaru BRZ was included in Car and Driver's annual 10Best list for the second year in a row.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the 2023 Subaru BRZ?

The 2023 Subaru BRZ is powered by a 2.4-liter Subaru Boxer engine that produces 228hp. The engine is mated to a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission or a six-speed electronic direct-control automatic transmission.
  • How did Car and Driver determine the models included in the 10Best Cars list?

Car and Driver editors drove every qualified vehicle for a week before casting their votes on a scale from 0 to 100, discarding the high and low scores, and averaging the remaining scores to determine the 10Best Cars of 2023.
  • Car and Driver acknowledged the 2023 Subaru BRZ for adopting the concept of “enough,” highlighting the space left by extra pounds.

“The car is utterly wonderful – it’s light, sharp, unfiltered, and inexpensive. Long may it remain so. We don’t need anything more,” Car and Driver stated.

The 10Best Cars nominees include all-new vehicles, winners from the 10Best competition in 2022, as well as models with major improvements. All must be within the $110,000 base-price cap and available for purchase no later than January 31, 2023. The editors drove every new vehicle that met those requirements for a week before casting their votes on a scale from 0 to 100, discarding the high and low scores, and averaging the remaining scores to determine the 10Best Cars of 2023.

“Car and Driver is a legendary automotive publication, and we are honored that their experts again recognized the performance and value of the second-generation BRZ. This accolade helps solidify our goal of providing customers with a pure sports car embedded with Subaru DNA,” Subaru of America, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Doll stated.

The 2023 Subaru BRZ is powered by a 2.4-liter Subaru Boxer engine that produces 228hp. The engine is mated to a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission or a six-speed electronic direct-control automatic transmission. The 2023 Subaru BRZ is available in two trim levels: Premium and Limited.

Among the standard features of the 2023 Subaru BRZ are a Torsen limited-slip differential, Keyless Access with Push-Button Start, LED headlights (low and high beam) with automatic height adjustment, Vehicle Stability Control with Track Mode; 17-inch alloy wheels in dark gray finish, dual-zone automatic climate control, Incline Start Assist, power fuel-door lock, power windows with auto up/down and pinch protection, rear center console storage box with dual USB input/charge ports and auxiliary input jack, variable intermittent windshield wipers with new speed-sensing mist feature, and Welcome Lighting.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) of the 2023 Subaru BRZ enables the ID registration of two sets of wheels. Rather than changing the tires on the original wheels, the owner can now easily switch to seasonal tires installed on a second set of wheels. The standard Active Sound Control improves engine noise inside the cabin for a more enjoyable driving experience.

The cockpit in the 2023 Subaru BRZ prioritizes the driver while maintaining passenger comfort. Instruments and controls are clearly visible and reachable, thanks to the clear and simple layout. The seven-inch digital instrument panel, which is modeled after Subaru's renowned Boxer engine, displays the tachometer in the middle and vehicle information on the sides.

A programmable meter on the left of the tachometer can show amps, coolant temperature, or Lateral-G. The tachometer changes from a conventional circular form to a linear graph with a color display when Track Mode is selected.

The interior of the 2023 Subaru BRZ has a black upholstery with red contrast stitching on the front seat bolsters, steering wheel, shifter boot, and parking brake boot. Additionally standard are performance-design front seats and height-adjustable headrests. The Limited trim's front seats have Ultrasuede upholstery with red leather accents and dual-mode seat-heater controls. Control switches for Bluetooth, Bluetooth audio, and cruise control are integrated into the leather-wrapped steering wheel. The instrument panel visor and door trim are enhanced by the nubuck-like Brin Naub material.

The Subaru Starlink eight-inch Multimedia Plus infotainment system on the 2023 Subaru BRZ has the primary function of linking the driver to the road but it also connects passengers to the digital world. The system incorporates an Integrated Center Information Display that is standard for the Premium and Limited trim levels and enables smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and audio streaming, a rear vision camera, and SiriusXM services.

The award-winning Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard on Subaru BRZ variants with automatic transmission. The system includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking System, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert.

Additional features on the Limited variant include 18-inch alloy wheels in matte gray finish, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires, heated exterior power mirrors, upgraded audio system that includes a two-channel amplifier and two additional speakers, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Keep Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Steering Responsive Headlights, and Starlink Safety and Security.

Pricing for the 2023 Subaru BR-Z ranges from $28,595 to $32,795 (approximately P1.5 million to P1.8 million).
