Suzuki Thailand auto production facility to close in Dec. 2025

MANILA: Suzuki Motor Corporation shall close its automobile production facility in Thailand next year

In a statement, the closure of Suzuki Motor Thailand’s (SMT) plant will take effect by the end of 2025. The decision, the Japanese vehicle manufacturer said, was made as part of the marque’s global production restructuring.

Located at Pluakdaeng, Rayong Province, the 800-employee strong facility manufactures the Celerio, Ciaz, and Swift.  

However, Suzuki’s distributor in the Land of Smiles will continue its sales and after-sales services in the country through importing completely boxed-up units from the global brand’s plants within the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) region as well as in Japan and India.

To note, SMT started its production in 2012 and has produced as much as 60,000 units annually including exports.

Relatedly, the company shall introduce electrified models including hybrid vehicles in Thailand as part of its efforts to push the Thai government’s carbon neutrality goals.

Following the global office’s decision, Suzuki Philippines is expected to source the Swift from other factories once the Thailand facility stops its production.
