Tesla Model S P100D for Electric GT revealed
MANILA: Tesla Model S P100D was the fastest electric production car until Faraday introduced its Future FF 91 at CES 2017. Now, the American automaker has revealed the race ready Model S P100D which will take part in the Electric GT (EGT) championship.
The model has been prepared for the championship by dropping the weight to at least 500 kg from the previous version. The weight drop is a result of stripping the interior elements along with optimising the other cabin components. The model has been also equipped with a full roll cage to meet the racing regulations in a significant manner.
Along with weight reduction, the suspension and brakes are also revamped to give better handling on the track. The tyres are also replaced with Pirelli P Zero to give road-hugging experience to the driver.
Considering the powertrain of the Model S P100 D, the total power output measures 789 PS while the peak torque rest at 995 Nm. Clocking 0- 100 kmph takes just 2.1 seconds while the top speed can hit a mark of 250 kmph.
Putting some light on the EGT championship, it will consist 10 teams and 20 drivers. There are various European tracks scheduled for the first season. These tracks include Assen, Barcelona, Estoril, Paul Ricard and the Nurburgring. After this, there will be some non-championship race in the Americas. Each race weekend will have a 20-minute practice session, 60-minute qualifying, 60 km day race and a 60 km dusk race.
