Tesla Model X Goes Live @ 2016 Geneva Motor Show
MANILA: Tesla Motors must have missed out a podium at the Detroit Auto Show 2016, but grabbed an eye-catching place at the ongoing 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The American electric car manufacturer has showcased its all new pure-electric crossover car, named Tesla Model X; the first ever crossover in its own category. It might sound unconventional to your ears, but yes! It is the world’s first pure-electric crossover. It is also said to be the flagship model designed and crafted by Tesla Motors, thus replacing the iconic Tesla Model S from this crowned position. The firm has come up with several variants of the Model X, i.e. 70D, 90D and the top of the line P90D.
SUVs generally draw attention of the crowd due to their large footprint, but being an electric crossover SUV, painted in blue and carrying a badge of Tesla, the Model X will undoubtedly have an unprecedented appeal. The showcased model is said to be the muscular version of the well-famed luxury sedan, Tesla Model S. The American engineers have acquired a whole new state-of-the-art technology to design this pure-electric crossover. Since, it is an SUV, it has a raised ground clearance and off-course an All-Wheel Drive.
The most talked feature here is the “Auto-Pilot” mode and Alternative Charging Method. Since last year, Tesla Motors is testing both these features with the Tesla Model S, as it is the fastest electric sedan. And, as we all know that the X is a muscled out iteration of the Model S, we would be hoping these advanced features to appear along with the Tesla electric crossover SUV as well.
While talking about the powertrain of the showcased variant, P90D, it is equipped with a 90 kWh battery pack with which you can achieve a top speed of 155 mph (250 kmph) and can reach 0-97 kmph in just 3.8 seconds. With a full-charged battery, the estimated distance it can cover is 250 miles (402 km). The power generated by the front and rear motors is counted as 259 hp and 503 hp, respectively.
The 90D variant also acquires a similar battery power and its top speed is 155 mph (250 kmph). The fully charged 90D can cover a maximum distance of 257 miles (414 km). Moving towards the lowest model, i.e. 70D, it comes packed with a 70 kWh battery and achieves a top speed of 140 mph (225 kmph). It can make 0-97 kmph acceleration in 6.0 seconds. The 70D variant’s estimated range is 220 miles (354 km).
The most noticeable and futuristic thing Tesla Motors has fitted in the electric SUV is the Falcon doors. It clearly affirms the car’s internet given name, i.e. Ludicrous. After having a look at it, you must be thinking that it is a 5-seat crossover. But, it’s not. The architecture looks sophisticated and compact from outside, but while having a closer look this Tesla SUV clearly shows a three-row seat layout and spacious cargo space.
The firm has also open the doors for booking the signature Tesla Model X, but only for those who were in-personal with Tesla Motors. However, we would be hoping the launch of this “Ludicrous Model” in sometime soon. Let’s see when we will get a chance to get behind the wheels of this purely electric AWD crossover.
