Toyota GR GT Cup wraps up 2nd round of e-races
MANILA: Toyota Gazoo Racing capped off the second round of the 2021 Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup, where e-racers showed their mettle and determination in vying for the title of being the fastest e-racer in the Philippines.
The second leg of the e-motorsports event took the participants to the Tokyo Expressway's East Outer Loop, a fictional city circuit that appears in Gran Turismo Sport. It has a length of 7.3 kilometers with five sectors and 12 turns. Racers were thrilled and challenged by the circuit’s varying changes between ascents, flat surfaces, and a series of high-speed corners.
Joshua David Marquez took the top spot of the Junior Class — where ran with a sizable lead by the fifth lap. He was awarded with a total of 30 points coming from a 1.5x multiplier. Round 1 champion Russell Cabrera was pushed back to second place and John Paul Veloso remained in third.
Jether Miole was able to maintain his position on the top spot of the Promotional Class. At first, he was challenged by other racers but was able to keep the position all to himself throughout the first lap. The patience and wit of the racers were tested by the recurring s-curves along the circuit. Miole was able to close the final lap with a wide gap, earning a total of 50 points in the competition so far.
Meanwhile, the starting lineup of the Sporting Class presented a roster of popular participants. They were challenged by the long road stretches that gave suspenseful moments of whether one will give in upon entry of the next turn. In the end, Luis Moreno ruled the race, followed by defending champion Terence Lallave. Moreno has now earned a total of 45 points and Lallave has a total of 42.5 points. They are followed by Lance Padilla, with 28 points.
The top finishers of the three categories took home gaming peripherals and high-tech devices as their prize.
For the upcoming third round, multipliers will double up the scores of the finishers. Interested participants may register at toyota.com.ph/gtcup/. Make sure to check out all system requirements to enjoy a seamless playing experience.
The overall champions of the 2021 Toyota GR GT Cup will receive a brand-new Sony PlayStation 5 and a cash prize, while the second and third placers will take home high-tech gadgets and a gaming chair. The third round will happen on June 18 and 19, and the National Finals will be on June 26.
