Toyota GR Racing TH claims victory at 2024 AXCR

MANILA: Toyota Gazoo Racing Thailand took the top podium at the recently-concluded Asia Cross Country Rally 2024.

Courtesy of Mana Pornsiricherd and Kittisak Klinchan on board the competition-ready Hilux Revo, the duo took the team’s first-ever win in the series (a seven-entry try) after clocking an overall time of 14:22:00.

Aside from that, Toyota Gazoo Racing Indonesia made up of Japanese drivers Ikuo Hanawa and Hirokazu Somemiya finished at the fourth spot using their rally-prepped Fortuner with a time of 14:56:48.

Meanwhile, the second and third place finishes were secured by Isuzu Suphan Explorer Liqui Moly Rally Team after the Suwat Limjirapinya/Prakob Chaothale duo finished the six courses at 14:25:47 and the Thongchai Klinkate/Banpoth Ampornmaha tandem, 14:36:24. They completed the competition driving their respective D-Max units.

Placing fifth were Mitsubishi Ralliart’s Katsuhiko Taguchi and Takahiro Yasui, who ended this year’s races using the Triton with a time of 15:34:52.

This year’s AXCR had its opening ceremony on August 11 at the landmark clock tower in Surat Thani, Thailand — with the competition proper starting the following day.

The second and third legs were done in Hua Hin, covering more than 550 kilometers while the remainder of the competition (and the toughest stage) was at Kanchanaburi.
