Toyota GT 86 Picks Up Where Scion Left-Off
MANILA: While not that popular, we (autofans and car lovers) might have all heard bits and pieces of the news about Toyota shutting down its Scion marque of sports vehicles. But this doesn’t mean that we won’t get to see any more sports vehicles which are more closer to younger buyers. To make up for what they lost with the dissolution of the Scion brand, the Japanese automakers have revealed the latest Toyota GT 86, quite ahead of its New York Auto Show debut.
Also known to many as the Subaru BRZ to the Asian readers, the Toyota 86 is a highly popular sports car that is powered by a signature Boxer engine, a feature quite common in Subaru vehicles. The 2017 GT 86 has been presented with several changes to its exteriors that would immediately remind one of the outgoing FR-S. The new vehicle features an updated bumper design with a new pattern for the LED daytime running headlamps. The taillights too, have been redesigned along with brand new multi-spoke 17 inch alloys. The major change however is the improved drivetrain that will boost its output by almost 8 hp. Weather this will be from the regular 2.0-litre boxer from the old 86, or will feature a new assembly has not yet been made clear by the manufacturers. Like already mentioned, the interiors too receive minor updates but have not yet been revealed by Toyota Motors to possibly increase anticipation for the New York debut.
The new 86 will also feature an intelligent 6-speed automatic transmission that will further enhance the driving pleasure. The featured hill-assist technology will ensure that you maintain total control of the vehicle irrespective of the terrain. With looks that mimic the old Scion FR-S and technology that is unlike any other automobile in their fleet, the new Toyota GT 86 will certainly appeal to the younger crowds as intended by the automakers in the first place.
