Toyota Motor Philippines donates Vios, Innova at its 30 years celebration
MANILA: Today, the Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is celebrating 30 years of sustained success in this country. It has been three decades since TMP officially started business in the country. A huge celebration was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Bonifacio Global City. The President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Roa Duterte presided as the guest-of-honour with Akio Toyoda, Toyota Motor Corporation president.
In 2017 TMP managed to sell four times more than what they were selling ten years ago, over 180,000 units. TMP then was ranked top 4 in the ASEAN region and top 9 concerning Toyota's global vehicle sales. Being the number one in passenger car sales, in commercial vehicle sales, as well as overall sales TMP has maintained the Triple Crown of manufacturers for sixteen consecutive years. TMP has helped contribute to long-term growth and development in the country. TMP through its investments for manufacturing of local parts has provided more employment opportunities. The company also plans to offer mobility solutions in the country shortly.
TMP president Satoru Suzuki stated that he was happy today and firmly believed that the partnership had developed the strong backbone of Toyota’s success in the Philippines. He also mentioned that Toyota now has become part of the Philippine people’s lives and remembered the time when one year’s sales were just 15,000 units, and now 30 years later, TMP has sold 184,000 units. Thus making the Philippines rank 9th in Toyota’s global sales. He thanked the people for supporting Toyota all these years.
President Duterte thanked them, and congratulated Toyota, for their immense contribution to the Philippine economy. During the ceremony, he stated that Toyota Motor Philippines was not only a leader in the production of quality vehicles but also a significant driver of the economy. He added that Toyota Motor Philippines could count on his full support, as it continues to bring the standards of the automotive industry to greater heights.
“I would like to reserve my most sincere and deepest thanks for all the people of the Philippines. You warmly accepted us into your homes. Your Excellency, President Duterte, I truly appreciate your people. The Filipinos. Like you, Toyota places great importance in nurturing our people,” said Akio Toyoda, President, Toyota Motor Corporation expressing his gratitude to the Philippine Government and the people as well.
To signify its commitment to local manufacturing, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation donated 30 Toyota cars that were locally made, to the government of Philippines to commemorate their 30th anniversary. These comprised of 20 all new Vios and ten Innova MUVs. Additionally, three more Hiace units will also be donated soon. On behalf of the Philippines Government, President Duterte was the one to accept these cars.
