Toyota Vios Cup and GR GT Cup to make comeback this year
MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) recently announced the return of the highly anticipated Toyota Gazoo Racing -Vios Cup and the second season of its e-Motorsport tournament, the GR GT Cup.
The 2020 leg of the popular race series was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the Vios Cup will make its much awaited comeback with more “waku-doki” (heart-pumping excitement), while properly observing health and safety protocols.
The Toyota Gazoo Racing–Vios Cup 2021 is expected to begin in July. The country’s premier one-make-race series aims to gather the top circuit racers competing for championship in the Promotional, Sporting, and Super Sporting classes. The new season will also include the popular Autocross Challenge.
“While the race itself will be done live at the Clark International Speedway with no on-site spectators, more fans can enjoy watching the event as a digital spectacle. Supporters all over the world may follow and view the Toyota Gazoo Racing-Vios Cup online in the safety of their own homes," said TMP Vehicle Sales Operations First Vice President Sherwin Chualim. “Fans can look forward to significant improvements in the production to make the livestream doubly exciting and worth catching. Online fan engagements and brand-building experiences will also be boosted through the support of the Toyota Gazoo Racing global brand and the addition of the GR GT Cup e-Motorsports (online racing) activities.”
Aspiring participants can now avail limited-edition Toyota one-make-race units. For inquiries, send an email to the Vios Cup secretariat managed by Tuason Racing at vioscupsecretariat@gmail.com. Further details on the Toyota Gazoo Racing–Vios Cup and the reopening of the Toyota Racing School will be announced by TMP soon.
Filipino esports racers are also set to experience “waku-doki” within the comfort of their homes through the second season of the GR GT Cup e-motorsport series.
The online racing event uses the Gran Turismo game on PlayStation, where participants may virtually drive the GR Supra and other Toyota GR models through the world’s most famous race tracks. Awesome prizes will be given away to the 2021 leg champions. The 2021 GR GT Cup will start in April. To register, log on to toyota.com.ph/gtcup.
