Toyota Vios XLE - What’s on Offer
The latest iteration of the Toyota Vios was introduced to the Philippine market just over a year ago, and it received its fair share of critics and admirers. The new Vios, which in certain parts of the world is known as the Yaris (Ativ), is the Japanese automaker’s renewed take on a car that has worked its magic well over several years.
The B-segment family car is perhaps one of the most impactful and popular genres of passenger vehicles in the world. And cars such as the Toyota Vios have been proven (time & again) to be massively successful when it comes to attracting buyers who want a reliable, decently styled, fuel-efficient and spacious family runabout.
While Toyota Philippines used to sell up to 10 different variants/trims of the new Vios, the brand has recently added the XLE variant to the vast line-up as well. So first up, let’s take a look at the price of this new entrant…
New Toyota Vios prices:
Toyota Vios new variants | Price |
1.3 XLE MT | PhP 791,000 |
1.3 XLE CVT | PhP 841,000 |
To put the Vios prices into perspective, the sedan range costs between PhP 662,000 to PhP 1,100,000. In the Philippines, the new Toyota Vios goes up against cars such as the Nissan Almera, Suzuki Ciaz, and Honda City.
While the Vios rolls in healthy sales figures, Toyota Philippines figured it wouldn’t hurt to launch a lower-priced variant of the family sedan. So, what does the XLE trim offer customers, and what features does it miss out on? Well, read on and find out.
New Toyota Vios XLE features:
1. Frugal engine
The new Toyota Vios XLE variants are powered by the brand’s 1NR-FE four-pot petrol engine. This 1.3-litre unit comes equipped with Toyota’s Dual VVT-I technology along with DOHC and electronic fuel injection. Producing 98 hp and 123 Nm of torque, this motor drives the front wheels via either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.
Its strongest suit has to be its astonishing 19 kmpl combined fuel economy rating. While it may not be very powerful, its frugal nature does it some justice.
2. 15-inch alloy wheels
Unlike the lower J and XE trims, the new XLE comes equipped with larger and more attractive 15-inch alloy rims as standard.
3. Better infotainment system
The XLE trim also comes fitted with the modern 7.0-inch touchscreen display that’s found on higher trims of the new Vios.
This unit features the Weblink software that allows for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, plus you also get four speakers instead of just two that are found on lower trims.
4. Power-adjustable door mirrors
The Vios XLE gets power-adjustable door mirrors, which, unlike the manually-operated ones found on lower models, make adjusting the mirrors more convenient and safer.
New Toyota Vios XLE - What you don’t get:
1. Projector headlamps with LED DRLs
Unlike the more expensive G and Prime trims, the new Vios XLE cars don’t come with the more modern and stylish projector units for its halogen headlamps, nor do they feature LED daytime running lights (DRLs).
2. Push-button engine start
While the new Vios XLE does get keyless entry, it loses out on push-button ignition for the engine. You need to crank it up the old-fashioned way with the key.
3. Fewer airbags
Where the previous model came with seven airbags as standard across all variants, the new model only ships with seven airbags on higher trims. The lower variants (including the new XLE) have to make do with just three airbags (dual front & driver’s knee).
In conclusion:
With the introduction of the new XLE trim, the new Toyota Vios line-up now caters to almost every type of buyer in the segment. Keeping in mind its lowered price tag but without losing too many features, the Vios XLE will likely be a big hit in the Philippines for Toyota.
