Toyota Yaris Cross, other models affected by recall order

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has issued a recall order for the Yaris Cross, as well as other nameplates from its stable.

According to a social media post on TMP’s official Facebook page, the local wing of the Japanese carmaker noted that the Toyota Yaris Cross — built from May 29 to September 4, 2023 — could suffer from incorrectly tightened front shock absorber nuts.

Per TMP, since the components “may not be adequately tightened,” they could become loose causing abnormal noise should the vehicle be operated continuously in this condition.

“In worst case, these nuts may come off, posing a risk to vehicle stability,” the company stressed.

Some 3,378 Toyota Yaris Cross units are expected to be affected by the said issue.

Likewise, around 36,930 units of the Toyota Avanza and Veloz multi-purpose vehicles — made from January 07, 2022, to September 04, 2023 — are also forecasted to experience the same problem.

“We would like to invite all involved customers of the following vehicles with the production range indicated below to kindly contact any authorized Toyota Dealers to schedule a free inspection and/or repair,” the company wrote in its Facebook post.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your continued support and cooperation,” TMP added.

Toyota also reiterated its ongoing recall for select Avanza, Veloz, and Raize models.

As reported by Zigwheels Philippines earlier this year, the aforementioned nameplates were recalled due to a potentially damaged disk brake system and improperly welded front-side impact beams.
