Volkswagen Tharu enters PH market

The Volkswagen Tharu has officially entered the Philippine market and ready to jostle with other competitors in the C-segment crossover arena.

Carrying the name Taos in some markets abroad, the latest offering from Volkswagen Philippines provides more room compared to the T-Cross and is laden with comfort and safety features.

Powertrain

Powering the Volkswagen Tharu is a 1.5-liter Euro6-rated turbo gasoline engine mated to a seven speed direct-shift gearbox that sends 158 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque to its front wheels. It also comes with four driving modes (Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom).

Providing the stopping are discs brakes on all four wheels.

Exterior

The Volkswagen Tharu is 4,458 millimeters (mm) long, 1,841 mm wide, and 1,632 mm tall with a 2,680 mm wheelbase.

The newly-launched model’s front fascia wears a black radiator grille with chrome bar and large Volkswagen logo, brushed aluminum trimmings on the front bumper’s lower potion.

A bold, sweeping line is seen on the side, alongside the chrome door handles. Giving it the sport utility vehicle character are the black borders (fitted on the wheel arches, lower part of the doors and the nameplate’s housing at the front fender) and the 18-inch alloy wheels.

At the back of the vehicle are the rear spoiler, distinct linear combination lamps design, as well as the rear fog lights and additional brushed aluminum accent on the bumpers.

Interior

Inside, the sport utility vehicle is tailored with leather seats (combination of fabric inserts for the entry-level option) with the driver side getting a 12-way electric adjustment system with heater. The front passenger could also get the same amenity — but only in the top-of-the-line trim.

Rear seats can be folded split to give the owner as much as 1,543 liters of cargo space.

Features

Further, the Volkswagen Tharu is also fitted with active info display (eight-inch on the SE and 10.25-inch for the SEL) and touchscreen infotainment system (eight-inch for the base model and 12-inch for top-tier option) that has Apple Carplay, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity.

Charging can be done with the 12-volt sockets or using the Type A and C USB ports strategically fitted around the crossover.

Its host of driver-centric comfort technologies include headlamps with automatic leaving home and coming home function; electric outside rearview mirror with power fold, heating, and reverse tilting functions; auto-dimming rearview mirror; and the tilt-and-telescopic multifunction steering wheel.

Among the Volkswagen Tharu’s standard safety features are the rear traffic alert, electronic stabilization program, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, traction control, anti-slip regulation, parking distance control, reverse camera and tire pressure monitoring system. Intelligent parking assist system and area view camera have been added on the crème-de la-crème variant.

Offered in Pure White, Mangan Grey, Petroleum Blue, and Polytech Blue body color options, 

Offered in 300 TSI DSG SE and 300 TSI DSG SEL, the entry-level variation wears a price tag of P1.808 million while top-of-the-line option, P1.945 million.
