Volkswagen Tharu is brand’s ‘bridge to electrified future’

MANILA: Volkswagen Philippines has officially launched the Tharu compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) on Friday, and the all-new model was introduced as the company’s “bridge to its electrified future.”

With design elements derived from Volkswagen’s global electrified models, the Tharu signifies that the company is entering the local electric vehicle (EV) market soon.

The Volkswagen Tharu’s side is more flat in terms of the alloy wheel design, making it more aerodynamic. It also features the illuminated insignia of Volkswagen as well as the horizontal red accent, which are seen on the brand’s electrified models.

Most of the Volkswagen Tharu’s features, including the technologies, were also adopted from the brand’s global EV lineup.

“These basically give us that initial idea of what particular products could be available in the market in the near future,” Volkswagen Philippines Chief Operating Officer Josh Altarejos stated.

Volkswagen Philippines President Antonio Zara III also mentioned that the company is set to follow the brand’s Accelerate global strategy, which targets a market share of 50 to 70 percent for full EVs by 2030.

The current EV lineup in Volkswagen’s international markets include the ID.7 premium sedan, the ID.4 SUV, and the ID. Buzz minivan.
