Volkswagen withdraws its Application for EPA Certification

MANILA: Volkswagen had been waiting for the EPA approval for its 2016 diesel vehicles but later on withdrew its application for EPA certification that is a part of emission violations. Without the EPA certification, VW won't be able to sell its cars and light trucks. It also makes clear that VW have to wait long for its diesel models.

VW, U.S. Chief revealed that the 2016 model diesel-powered vehicles also include the emissions-control software that require the common regulatory approval in the U.S.

The testimony doesn’t make clear whether the software can defeat emissions tests as software on older diesel-powered vehicles does.

In a written testimony by the VW CEO, Michael Horn, states that Volkswagen’s emissions control strategy including a software feature should be approved by the regulators and declared as an auxiliary emissions control device, which is supposed to be legal in the U.S. However, the testimony was unable to mention whether the software can defeat emissions tests like the software installed in its old diesel-powered vehicles.

Mr. Horn also mentioned that the affected three generation vehicles complying 2.0-litre diesel engines will need a different fix. According to Horn, the affected models need to be fixed while some cars might need software updates which will also be completely installed with a Urea injection system.
