Volvo CES 2016 a Big Jump in Auto Tech Future
MANILA: Volvo CES 2016, well, we know that’s not what it’s called, but it looks like Volvo with its Microsoft collaboration, and autonomous vehicles plans to own this year’s Consumer Electronic Show. Volvo’s zeal to bring something new and advanced has led it to gel-up with great minds of the tech industry. To its list are included companies and technologies like - Ericsson, Microsoft, Volvo HoloLens, Volvo Concept 26 and the list goes on.
Talking about the latest in the row is what’s called the ‘Volvo on Call App’ & Microsoft Band 2. A tech feature that will change the entire scenario of car connectivity. Only a few days back we told you about BMW AirTouch system, a predecessor to its Gesture Control feature. This one from Volvo doesn’t even require you to be in the car, unlike the BMW AirTouch, to set system functionality. In short, your car gets ready the way you like it; even before you get in, all set to impress you.
Wondering how it works, well, it’s the same old Volvo on Call App that earlier connected you with your Volvo, but with a twist. Now apart from your smartphone and tablet, you have a Microsoft Band 2, a wearable accessory on the commanding end and Volvo on the receiving end. So, now while you get ready for work, you can send important directions to the car, making it ready for the ride. From pre-destination route, air-con settings, and engine ignition to playlist, you can prepare the Volvo beforehand.
Volvo Microsoft collaboration dates back to 2015, of which Volvo HoloLens is an important product. The said product enables 3D projection of the car, helping customers to analyse it inside-out. Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Service at Volvo Cars said, "HoloLens is a high end technology that facilitates the users to explore cars and allow them to understand the features and available services in a better manner.”
Moving further, Volvo in its tech advancement spree initiated a survey, to know how costumes would like their autonomous vehicles. Further proving its zeal to provide better driving experience to its future prospective buyers. Out of 10,000 consumers who signed up for the survey, 92% preferred a steering wheel inside the car, to take control of the autonomous car the minute they want.
