WATCH: New Honda Civic Type R is most powerful of its kind ever

MANILA: Honda has officially unveiled the 2023 Civic Type R at a special event in Los Angeles, California. NTT Indycar Series superstar driver Colton Herta helmed the new Type R in the event. The 2023 Civic Type R was built from the ground up to provide exhilarating performance and compelling driving experience both on the road and on the track.

The 2023 Civic Type is the fastest, most powerful Honda model offered in the US. It is based on the 11th-generation Civic Hatchback, featuring a low and wide design and a high-performance cockpit that elevates the thrill of driving.

“Even in this ‘year of the Honda SUV,’ it's great to be part of a brand that remains focused on the thrilling performance and joy of driving delivered by the all-new Civic Type R,” American Honda Sales Assistant Vice President Mike Kistemaker stated. “Type R is about more than speed, power and handling. It's how a great car makes you feel that really matters and that's what the all-new Civic Type R is all about.”

The Civic Type R is known as a “symbol of extreme performance and desirability.” The 2023 Civic Type R has already set a new production-car front-wheel drive track record at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan, proving that it is the most powerful Civic Type R ever.

The lightweight and highly rigid body of the 2023 Civic Type R ensures high-speed stability and sharp responses, while the improved suspension and steering performance provides the Civic Type R’s famously addictive driving feel.

The 2023 Civic Type R is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine mated  to a six-speed manual transmission and rev-matching system.

The Civic Type R features a muscular yet sleek and stylish look with well-balanced downforce and drag reduction.

The Civic Type R sports an aggressive front bumper, a sporty honeycomb grille mesh, large front fender grilles, a new side sill design, and redesigned rear spoiler and bumper.

The 2023 Civic Type R comes in five body colors: Historic Championship White, Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl, and Sonic Grey Pearl.

On the inside, the Civic Type R comes with the iconic red seats with suede-like upholstery. It also comes with a serialized Type R plate on the dashboard.

A new +R driving mode exclusive meter design provides instant vehicle information, with a graphic engine RPM display, rev indicator lights, and gear position indicator.

The Honda LogR data logger, on the other hand, provides real-time information on the mechanical movements of the vehicle. The cockpit also comes with a stopwatch and the ability to share driving videos.

More details, including the pricing, will be revealed closer to the US launch this fall.
