Also known as the Ford Endeavour in India, Ford Everest is a Luxury sports utility vehicle or SUV that has been around since 2003. The first generation (2003 - 2006) was based on the 1998 to 2006 Ford Ranger while the second generation models (2006 - 2015) were based from the 2006 to 2011 Ford Ranger which has received a facelift in 2009 and 2013. Its third generation was released in 2015 channelling the design language of Ford Ranger T6. It has received some touch up in 2018 alongside Ranger.
Designed to tackle tough terrain and the country's major thoroughfares, the Ford Everest 2020 Sport was built to be rough and ready. Intuitive control technology was employed to ensure better driving experience and convenient handling.
This year, the USA based automaker has traded out some minor details from the previous variant to come up with the all-new 2020 Ford Everest Sport. It now bears more blacked-out accents and finishes instead of chrome while the new front grille is painted in black, exclusive for the Everest Sport only. The silver-painted front bumper trim will now be seen in black while the hood comes with the word EVEREST is displayed in black lettering and the Sport decals are in the lower rear doors.
Here are the things that we know so far about this amazing SUV’s 2020 model:
Engine Specs
Slotted between the Trend and Titanium grades, the Everest Sport has three available engine options which are the 3.2-litre inline-five turbodiesel, 2.0-litre turbodiesel, and the 2.0-litre bi-turbo from the Raptor. However, the availability of the engine options will depend on the market but there is a great chance that we’ll get the rear-wheel-drive model with the 2.0-liter turbo. Meanwhile, the single-turbo engine option can put out up to 180 horsepower and 420 Nm torque so it’s not also that bad. As for the transmission, the 10-speed automatic one is most likely to be included.
Exterior
There is not much info about the full exterior specs yet but in Australia, the Everest Sport variant employs bi-LED headlights that can provide up to 17 percent more of greater lighting penetration and a 20 percent greater penetration in high beam mode. Moreover, the black lower bumper accents, black exterior mirrors, black window surrounds, and black roof rails can also be of a great plus if we’ll have the same here in PH.
As for the wheels, the Everest Sport released to Australians bestows an astonishing 20-inch alloy wheel with unique “Sport” badging and new Deep Crystal Blue ‘hero’ colour. Hence, it’s alright to assume that we’ll get the same amazing faces as we welcome the model for the Philippine market.
Interior
We may expect some blue-painted panels on the dashboard which have replaced the usual glossy gray accents. As for the seats, the Everest Sport’s first and second-row seats will be clad with leather accents and exclusive Capital Blue stitching while the Raceway Blue door pulls and door trim accents are also most likely to be seen.
Although there is a great chance that the automakers will tweak a bit of these feature that they have presented in Australia as they introduce the Everest Sport in the Philippine market, it is pretty safe to assume that they will still do a good job on the interiors of this premium SUV.
Technology
The 8-inch Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto might get a comeback for the Everest Sport model and still be connected with 9 speakers including a subwoofer. But we can never tell, the automakers might have prepared a better tech package for this one.
Apart from this, the AC 230-volt power sockets, 12V accessory sockets, reverse camera with parking sensors, and power-adjustable seats are already in place among its fellows under the same nameplate so we highly expect that these features will be in the 2020 Everest Sport as well. The other tech packages from the Titanium variants include starting with keyless entry, push-start ignition, one-touch power windows, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror can also be a great addition to the tech features of the Everest Sport.
In Australia, the Everest Sport gets a new windscreen-mounted USB port as standard for dash cameras.
Safety Equipment
Another major that makes us buy a car is the safety of driving it. As for Everest Sport, it is packed with a lot of safety systems and driver aids that will make your drives more efficient and safer than ever. For the new 2020 Everest Sport model, we can most likely get the following safety features just like they did in Australia:
- Seven airbags (with curtain coverage to the third row)
- Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane-keeping Aid
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Auto High-Beam
- Rear-view Camera with Rear Parking Sensors
- Cruise control with speed limiter
- Hill Descent Control
- Hill Launch Assist
- E-locking Rear Differential
Safety plays an important role in ensuring the welfare of the driver and its passengers hence in spite of its luxurious features and capabilities, the Everest Sport is assumed to not disappoint us in this department.
The new Everest Sport has a braked towing capacity of 3000 kilograms for the 3.2-litre model and 3100 kilograms for the 2.0-litre model.
Can’t wait for the unveiling of the new Everest Sport? We are too! The automakers also added that the official models and prices will be announced on the same date of its debut. Stay tuned for the launching updates of the 2020 Ford Everest Sport only here at Zigwheels PH.
