What Peugeot & Citroen learned from Volkswagen Scandal?
MANILA: The VW scandal was big enough to leave a never ending impact on the auto world. And guess what, who is the latest learner out from the VW scandal school, it's the Peugeot S.A (PSA). Yes, the same company that holds both Peugeot and Citroen has recently announced its future plans, under which it will be releasing the actual fuel economy figures of its car. In addition to mileage, one will also have full knowledge of emission the car will be producing.
This revolutionary step taken by the company is viewed as an after effect of Volkswagen blunder, under which the German manufacturer implanted 'defeat device' in its car. The said devices helped it pass the strict emission tests that would otherwise have been impossible to pass. Well, seeing VW tight condition, Peugeot decided to conduct a self-evaluation to maintain customers trust and belief. As for now, PSA started its emission and mileage measurement exercise by randomly selecting 4,300 cars. And it didn't come out as a shock when all passed the tests easily, thus maintaining the Euro 6 standard. (Way to go Peugeot).
In near future, PSA will test all its best-selling models and making the evaluated figures assailable to buyers. The good deeds not just end here as the company will further coordinate with independent agencies for cross-checking the in-house data sheet.
It's like we should all be thankful to VW, as because of it we are moving towards a loyal and cheat-free auto world.
